burning that oil
I need people's opinion.
3 weeks ago my oil light turned on so I checked it, and it was a little bit below full so the light didn't come on until today 3 weeks later. I checked it and now is below minimum like wtf Daily driving car put like 10 miles a day on it Mods jb4 map 5 dci On my e90 335i got the car with 48k miles I've put 4k miles in 3 monts now has 52k thinking about going with full synthetic royal purple Please let me know thank you. |

Just add a quart and read up a little on oil changes...Use BMW oil or Mobil 1 0w40. There are some others you can use, but royal purple isn't one of them. You need to use one that has LL01 on the label.

The difference could be because of inclination. So try to check the level with the car warm (as the oil check does not work when cold) and when the car has been enough on a flat surface.
Then add 1/2 of a quart. Not sure your "problem" is oil related, but I would recommend you use Castrol 0w30 Syntec (what bmw approves). Better than bmw 5w30 oil. |

Just go to any BMW dealership parts department and tell them your car year and model and they can sell you a quart for like $9. And then just top it off. It's OEM and what they use when they do oil changes. Or pick up any LL-01 approved oil. Mobile 1 0w-40.

i added my input in bold. i dont understand. actually im curious if you understand how the electronic dipstick works. i do not mean to offend here so bear with me....
heres how it works.... the distance between MIN and MAX represents 1qt, not all 7 qts of oil. you don't add oil when it is between MIN and MAX, you leave it alone. You wait until the car flashes a specific message saying "+1qt" then you add 1qt. There should not be any kind of light at all unless it gets to +1qt so I am not sure what you mean about the light coming on and it saying it was just under full. whatever you do, don't go adding a quart just because it drops a little below max, you leave it alone until it gets to MIN, then add 1 whole qt. when it tells you to.
