Question Approved BMW advice pls

Apologies for the newbie question but how much discount can you haggle out of a dealership? Obviously "depends" is the answer but what are people's experiences? Who would get the prize for the most discount lol?

I got squat. They took 500 off the asking price of 15000 and took 500 off my trade in from 7000 to 6500. Other than that I got a free umbrella.

It's all based on demand and supply. If it is a model with a lot of supply and little demand, you can knock a lot off the marked price. If it is the other way around, you'll be lucky if they did not ask you to pay more. It's all basic economics.

Depends if you have a trade in

If you are good at negatiating expect something like £500 extra on your trade in, £500 off the window price and something free like half a tank of fuel, make sure the car has mats, and maybe a discount on the gap insurance

You have to play hard ball though

As other said, all depends on what your trading in, and how much the dealer wants to get rid of their stock.

When I bought my 335i as an AUC years ago, it had a sticker price of £21K and been on sale for a while. On the bits of paper I signed the final sale price was £20K, so not much movement on the sticker price, but they gave me £1.5K more than book value for my PX (Infact £3K more than what VW offered against a factory order Golf R), and covered the cost of number plate transfer + 12 months road tax

So many variables.

IF you're prepared to play hardball AND walk away from a car, you can get a fair amount off.

IF you want THAT car, then resign yourself to get humped.
Remember that GAP insurance can be had for very little - about 30% of what BMW will quote. Probably forget about the shiny wax coating for £500 too.

Look at a car as soon as you see it on the website.
Show a lot of interest. On a £30k car offer £2k less.
They won't take it (if they do, then worry it's a dog )
If they still have it a month or so later, they usually drop the price.
Go in and offer £1500 less (i.e. £500 less than you've already offered)
Be prepared to either get the car that week, or walk away.

Worked for me.
(I was on the way down to Bristol to see a car, called in to Birmingham as I'd seen that the dealer had reduced the price on a car I'd previously looked at. Never got to Bristol, but did buy a car for less than the original knock down price. I have walked away from some nice cars though!)

Difficult to answer as it depends on the car and what sort of deal / margin the dealership did on the car your looking at (they may have taken it in PX) as well as what work it needs doing to it / prep it.

Generally speaking however, I would say between £500 - £750 off the price is realistic.

Some dealers will also offer a discount if you are a member of the BMW CCGB.

If you hit them at the end of the month and there sales are down you can get a good deal, as its all numbers with them, they can afford to take hits on the price in order to achieve a number if that makes sense.

The father in law bought his 535d e60 brand new and fully spec'd was a few quid short of 50k, he walked out of there paying 45k cash for it as he walked out and they rung him up within half hour saying they will do the deal if he come back and signed the paperwork that same day as it was the last day of the month

Point is right about them dropping the price if they don't shift.

As it was snowing a couple of years back I was not able to go & look (but neither was anyone else). By the time I got there it was £1500 cheaper. They had taken awful photos & only put for sale on BMW Site ( A lot are using pH's for specialist models now).

I played up that I had others to look at later that day & sent an E-mail middle of the following week with an offer & they took it. No trade in so only playing with one number.

I reckon I was pretty much on private sale money with New Tyres & BMW Approved Warranty which I rung out for a chunk of work in the first month.

Mine was probably a very low demand model but very rare with it.

Remember if you do the deal in the showroom they are working all there magic on you and you are making an emotional purchase looking at something shiny.

Once you are out of the showroom they are down to really the value they can offer.

Bro, don't know if you remember my CB 530d but I managed to get £1750 off the price of £17995. I always go in hard as its just a starter point to get the negotiations going.
