Retrofit E90 Auto Boot Open?
I waned to retrofit auto boot open on my E90, came across this, was wondering if anyone has tried it?
Was concerned that it may knock people in the head or make the boot to hard to shut, but the video seems very gentle compare to the others out there. Thanks in advance, Lee |

Has anyone got a photo of there strut on a e90 lci?
Cant beleive it would be any different to the pre lci? This would come in very handy when carrying the boy and needing to get in the boot, father in law has it in his e60 does take a bit of force to close it though but is very handy

I had some correspondence with the vendor some months ago when he was first developing these, & I supplied him with a load of photos & measurements of my boot lid & struts, so I'm guessing he's looked very carefully into which models / years his modification fits.

I did it on my seat leon about 8 months ago. .I had to use skoda octavia boot struts as the pressure need to be higher than seat struts..
Had to code in the boot pop release thou....I've got it on my to do list for my E90, mines got auto boot pop on the key fob so im thinking that it will just need high pressure struts to push up the boot lid and possibly spring loaded rubber bump stops which compress when closed so help with the pop when open.. |

Just watched the youtube vid.....the way I understand it and I researched it hard before doing the seat, the strut pressure determines the amount of force/speed it rises...as I mentioned above you can use spring loaded boot pops and lower pressure struts..
2 x new struts @ around 515 force are about £25.00 delivered spring loaded boot pops are for the scirocco £5.15..I'm sure I could cobble together a cheaper kit than £87.00!!!!! Ouch... |

No, I never got round to it but from what I remember he was proposing to make up a new strut lower end with a spring & modified bump stops, these were needed to give the lid some initial lift or it wouldn't pop open, even with stronger struts. It sounds like holmefield is thinking along the right lines.

The main problem is deciding what pressure struts wotk best I.E pressure required to give the lift, to much flys opens and bounces @ the top ( looks crap ) to little pressure boot lid pops off catch but sits there...
This is where modified boot pops come in there like the extra little kick needed to raise the lid..I'll have to look @ my boot stops as I haven't even looked @ them since I got the car... I'll find out the standard pressure thats in the boot struts on an E90 and work from that... |

No worries its on my to do list along with trying to get my CSL spoiler fitted in this damn cold weather..
When I get some time I'll look @ the boot struts and see how the stops are fitted.. |

Looking at the kit and the way in which they look to be fitted and work I think it's basically just a sleeve with the right tensioned springs that fit over the lower thin arm of the the strut. This just provides the initial force required to get the lid last the point at which the struts take over as per normal use.
Tis a lot of money for what it is in essence but then this is usually the case.
