50MPH in 30 zone - and the result is...

4 points and 285 quid. Definitely less than I was expecting.

As per the topic, got caught doing 50 in 30 zone (3 lanes one direction!!!)
Anyone knows whats the penalty?

thanks

more than likely a ban i would think, how long depends on your circumstances, i got banned for less in a 30. Its the one speed zone they are hardest on.

I don't think you'll get a ban double the speed limit is usually a ban! I got 6 points and a fine for doing 57 in a 30

I think it was £250 that was including court costs.

Ban is usually for doing 30 over the limit (or so I was told by the officer that pulled me over for speeding once). Will probably be points+fine, you won't be eligible for a speed-awareness course most likely.

If it's in 6 points territory then it's a possible ban.
Magistrates equate 6 points to 1 Month ban.

What's important is if it's a fixed penalty or not.

If it is then it's easy 3 points / £100 by post. But if it goes to magistrates then it depends what sort of mood they're in on the day. Expect 6 points or a 2 to 4 week ban.

Google the ACPO guidelines and also the force in question may have a policy.

And no, you won't get a speed awareness course by any stretch of the imagination!

EDIT - ACPO SAYS SUMMONS FOR 50 AND ABOVE IN A 30. So you might be unlucky.

There is no such ban/no ban threshold.

Only the point at which you get a summons instead of a fixed penalty I.e:

32 in a 20
50 in a 30
66 in a 40
76 in a 50
86 in a 60
96 in a 70

Once you get a summons then you're in the hands of the JPs, who are mainly retired, grumpy busybodies who hate speeding "youths".

But as said, expect 6 points our 2-4 weeks ban minimum. Fine circa £200 - £300.

Make sure you don't drive to court, and take means of payment with you, else they'll lock you up till you pay.....

I did 61 in 30 and got 28 day ban with £400 fine

They had just changes a dual carriageway from 60 to 30 and they seemed to take that into consideration.

Got to pay over 6 months as well. Just ask for it!

Terrorising the motorist as usual. Doesn't it make you feel great.
Did you see Top gear where they are showing how outdated the highway code is and how quickly modern day cars can stop. Traffic law like this is such a joke.

Better/faster/safer cars should have higher speed limits!!

I got caught doing 51 in a 30 similar situation with a speed camera van on a four lane road, 2 lanes either side with pavement down the middle, got a summons which equated to 6 points and a £515 fine mate just to let you know, hopefully you get off abit lighter on the wallet!

Lots of points or a ban will likely mean a big hike in your insurance premium too! I'm sure it's motorists that keep this country afloat

such a nice country to live in! perhaps if you asked for a mugging of a pensioner to be taken into account also youd get let off lighter?
