KW HAS Popping Sound
First off let me say im very happy with the feel and ride of the kw has on my passive suspension f80. I installed these about a month ago and as more time goes on though, I'm getting a deeper toned ping/pop from the front suspension during some slow turns with the wheel turned a decent amount. We have triple and quadruple checked the parts, and we don't see anything installed incorrectly, loose, etc, but has anyone else experienced anything similar? We drove the car in the rain yesterday, and today it seems to be popping more than normal..not sure there is any relationship there, but just throwing it out there. I've also continually checked the ride height, and nothing is changing/moving. We have the car set about like the eibach heights...little less than inch up front, and a quarter-inch in the rear. This sound isn't the end of the world, but would love for it to go away if there is a decently easy fix.
Thx For any help, Rm

its probably the topmount bearings, the Eibachs do this when you turn the wheel when the car is on the lift (noticed during install).
Its fine on the eibachs once car is on its wheels, I suggest that you check that the spring is properly aligned in the topmount as if its even 15mm out it will cause the topmount to sit at an angle and cause this popping sound. |

Spring binds. Common on coilovers. Get a set of trust sheets.

You put these on your passive suspension? This is the first I've heard of.

I have heard many times that thrust sheets can help alleviate spring binding, but I don't fully understand the details of the setup thanks

Yeah at low speed mine seem to pop or clunk over very small bumps. Mine do it with the wheel straight though. I don't have to be turning.

It's the first time I've heard about someone using this on the passive. Seems like it's being marketed for cars with active suspension. I'm actually interested in this due to the fact that I have more control of the height. I'd rather have KW V1s, but I doubt they're going to make them. I've had V1s numerous times, and they've always been great on the street.

I started with h&r's and they were ok, but too low for me with our roads as a dd. Since eibachs arent/weren't out, I bit the bullet and ordered the has kit and really like the ride compared to the passive stock ride. Coils would be overkill for me and frankly, I was trying to not to introduce noise to the car like I have with my GC coils on my e36....im gonna for sure try the thruster sheets on that car.
We put the car back on the lift...everything that was supposed to be tight was tight..everything that was supposed to be moving freely was free. We did observe a lot of dirt and gravel already in there so we cleaned that out, as well greased the spring where it meets the adjuster. Between the grease, cleaning the springs, and generally moving things up there making sure everything was in working order, my drive home was pop-free, and I take the same roads every day, so yesterday I did have noise. I dont know how long they will stay quiet or if it was just luck, but time will tell...thanks again for the help here.

The passive guys have an extra $1000 in their pockets to put toward full COs. But if you're happy with the dampening/rebound of the passive suspension and don't have a need or desire to fiddle with it (I'm a "set it and forget it" guy myself) then these springs are a perfect solution. Personally, i especially like not having to decide on a springs solution based on the difference between front and rear drops. All of that said, it bothers me that kw won't divulge the rates of the springs in this kit. I don't see the benefit of keeping this a secret |

It just seems like all the websites are basically saying that this HAS is a way to keep your active while being able to adjust your height. I'm guessing that's their solution to there not being a DDC kit out... Yet. I think I might give these a shot due to the fact that I don't need two-way or three-way adjustable coils. There is no point in it for me, and I'm not going to corner balance the car for street and then again for the street. Even if I did do HPDE, it would be purely for enjoyment, and not so much for the "best time". I'd only go once or twice a year due to my busy schedule. I loved the way the passive suspension felt, and I felt that the adaptive wasn't for me. I drove both back to back. It would be really nice to work on the F/R rake as well. Get it dialed in, and just leave it.

So..I got a week without the 'pop' but now it's back
The springs are still clean so the grease must have been what helped, and now ive driven it enough that things have moved and worn away the grease where it was helping keep everything quiet. As mentioned, this isnt the end of the world, but is a touch annoying. If anyone has any ideas to eliminate/prolong the noise since the grease helped, im all ears. Thanks again, Rm
