Another M2 test mule was spotted on the German Autobahn
Only a few days ago the Dutch car blog "Autoblog.nl" spotted the M2 test mule pictured below on the German Autobahn. They posted these five pictures on Jan 29, 2015.
Alike some of the M2s tested in Scandinavia earlier this month, also this test mule features the integrated fender parts. The testing goes on... Source: http://www.autoblog.nl/image-gallery...yshots/BMW_M2/ http://www.autoblog.nl/nieuws/bmw-m2...autobahn-74003 Close up of the first picture. Check the peculiarity of the exhaust tips: if it's not related to the picture (though it can also be noticed on the second picture), it looks as if an exhaust valve prevented the exhaust fumes from exiting through the right hand exhaust tips. Maybe BMW is also experimenting with valve set-ups and sound ? Or disconnected ? Or CF tips on the left and titanium tips on the right ? (Note: with the 1M Akrapovič axle-back exhaust, whenever the exhaust valve is closed (so-called "white mode"), no exhaust fumes exit through the outer exhaust pipes - all fumes then exit only via the muffler through the inner exhaust pipes)

Looks like they were trying to hide the fact that it was an M2 mule with the covered up left side of the exhaust. As if we wouldn't be able to tell. Hehe
Good deal though. More and more mules spotted almost every day. It's exciting! BTW, nice car you got there Artemis! Love the car and the color. |

I still wish the arches had been more like the F80 M3 and not M4 style where the whole panel is swolen, it definitely lessens the effect.
Jury is still out for me, an m3 in Yas marina blue looks very tempting! |

"The lady looked impressive all over, far more realistic than other games even attempted. Complete realism wasn't possible, of course, and Gard intended Lara to have somewhat exaggerated dimensions from the start. While making test adjustments to her girlish figure, a slip of his mouse turned an intended 50% increase to her breast size into a 150% gain. It met with instant approval from the team before he could correct it."

I wouldn't loose too much sleep over those wierd exhaust pipes. Didn't we see something like this on the 1M mules? Or maybe I am just remembering those cold start videos we saw from the "lucky 12" test day(s).
What I find more interesting is this is one of the first M2 mules with production front fenders and not the velcro'd add on M235iRacing fenders. The M2 is really taking shape!

For the record: the difference in fender shape between M3 and M4 has a functional reason:

As an owner of one, I can tell you that you wouldn't regret it at all. I know that even though I'm very excited about the M2, there's no way in hell I'd sell my E92 for one. Really, the only cars I'd consider getting rid of the M3 for would be a new Cayman or a GT3. I think they are that good. I however think the M2 would complement the M2 very well.
P.S. I'm loving this angle of the car. So nice:

That's really cool to compare them side by side. The flares on the 1M is better, but in general, I still prefer the M2. And the 1M at this point is already wearing one of my favorite OEM wheels ever made.
Throw on a nice CF M Performance spoiler and this thing would rock even more. |

But the 1M is definitely more M3 and the M2 is leaning more M4. Not what I was hoping for on that front...

Givin' it the negative treatment to show the difference in fenders size.
The M2 is hot ...but the 1M is still smokin' (what else did you expect from an ///M engineers' love child ?). 1M test mule (2010) (I horizontally flipped the second picture for comparison purposes) M2 test mule (2015)

To me, based based on your info, since there's no sedan counterpart like you have with the M3/4 (aka no 1M sedan or equivalent), BMW should be able to do whatever the hell they want with the M2 from a styling perspective. Aka, leave the svelt styling to the the M4, of which you know they will sell many more - and make the M2 an angry little monster - that's one of the reasons the 1M did so well.
