Clutch is burning

Mom getting that clutch burning smell but I'm not even holding it while shifting. The car is fairly new

Sounds like OP has a badly slipping clutch, is the best I can figure. I'm assuming OP has a stick shift....

In any case, if this is true, this calls for someone to dig into it and adjust things and/or replace the clutch if it's been worn down too much already.
