automatic headlights ON too early

when the headlights are in automatic mode, do you think sometimes the headlights are on even when it is very bright, say like even when there is sunlight? Is there anyway to adjust the settings so that the headlights won't be on too early?

If your headlights are on, in the auto mode, when it is bright outside, you have a sensing problem. My 07's lights don't come on until dusk has definetly set it. Of course, you can always control it the old fashioned way! That way, you never guess when they are on or off.

Holy cow dude, you are sure asking a lot of questions!

Mine come on frequently when it is still fairly light out. I am often wearing sunglasses and the headlights are on. Mostly when the sun is setting. You used to be able to adjust the sensitivity but not anymore. I don't really worry about it.

I like them to be on as much as possible just for extra visibility the xenon's have. I'd much rather people notice I'm around than slam into me. Now if they keep switching on and off, thats annoying.

If you have i-drive you can adjust the sensitivity.

I have it set to least sensitive, and they still come on too early.

Of course, my radio button is programmed backwards, so maybe the settings are backwards too!

You could, and I'm just spit ballin' here, do it manually?

Now before anyone starts the flamefest, don't. I know it'd be nice if things worked like they were supposed to, but if it does irk you that much you can always choose to turn them off and on when you want, no?

I wonder if it was also removed with newer versions of the iDrive software. I mean, not really removed -- it's still there -- but no longer functional.

Prior to updating my Progman software several months ago, I could easily tell the difference in the sensitivity settings for the lights. I kept it on "normal," and that seemed just right. After the update, and still set on "normal," I noticed my auto headlights coming on WAY earlier than before. I switched them to the lowest sensitivity. I don't know that it made any difference. They still come on way earlier than the "normal" setting before the update.

So now I think I still have the menu, but I don't know that it does anything. Oh well, it was worth it to add the nav POI search.

I never leave my light switch on auto. I turn them on manually every time.

But then other drivers are guessing whether you're parked or moving.

if you can't set the light sensitivity in i-drive, then your dealer can but at a price. i had mine set to very sensitive because the lights did not come on early enough for me. now they are fine and do come on in daylight like when the sun is setting.

does it really matter? just leave it in auto and let it do its thing. if you're really having issues with it, just turn it to the off position, but then you'll probably complain that you have to turn your lights on and off on a $32,000+ car.
