RPI Intercooler Installed....
I installed my RPI intercooler yesterday. Took only 1hr 1/2 that includes me doing and oil change as well. (Very Easy)
My initial reaction is I have lost a little down low but from 3500rpm on this thing starts to roll after that. Doing a few highway pulls I found is where it really benefits. All in all its perfect addition to my car. One thing of note...I didn't realize how small the stock intercooler is. Car MODs: AA Cat Back, SSTT, UR/HKS Blow Off Valve, and K&N Drop in filter, and RPI Intercooler. |

Does a larger intercooler affect down low torque or the sensation there of? |

Think of hooking up a short hose to a faucet and quickly turning on the water. How long does it take to for the flow to get to full pressure? Now do the same with a 50 foot hose - it will take longer due to the extra volume of the hose. Same idea. Its not so much an RPM based issue as it is lag issue. |

Minimal. You likely won't really notice it for a reasonably sized IC (i.e. you don't install an IC off a semi truck). Depending on the ambient temperature, the improved IC efficiency, and the ECU's aggressiveness with temperature compensation timing advance, the slower boost response is likely more than offset by the increase in power due to the higher air density (i.e. you can make more power at a lower boost pressure).

Typically, unless the volume variance is gigantic, not really.
The theory is correct, but IMHO, a X00CFM turbo will fill the relatively tiny increase in volume very quickly. i'd be surprised if full boost is affected by any more than one or two hundred RPMS - which can be eliminated by a very small adjustment in your driving style. Real lag increases will start coming when much larger bolt on turbo's start hitting the market. |
