Speed Cameras
Now I know all you guys will have your cruise control set to 69, just to be safe on motorways but just as a heads up here's some info on new speed cameras which will be rolled out to other locations later. Many people have been caught out already. For one they just look like a benign camera monitoring traffic flows. Not coloured yellow etc. They are also variable speed.
http://www.sevenoakschronicle.co.uk/...ail/story.html http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-maga...nitor-30841666 Once marked by GPS on a map they shouldn't be too much of a concern but there may be some guinea pigs before they get noted. |

I've seen a few of these, I am keeping my eye out a lot more for them these days. Sneaky. Not sure how they work when the variable speed is different in each lane either.

Yes I've always worried about the Gantry gatsos as well when I see people flying under those at 90. I hear they aren't on until the speed limit gets reduced but I'd never risk it.

They do piss me off when I have to brake to 40 for no reason at 8 in the evening, then the next gantry says NSL again. It's tempting to get a dashcam and use google maps to show how much they abuse these things. |

But you can do 80 on the fast lane and it doesn't flash so that's as far as I'll go near them. |

The ones noted below are very active especially when the speed advisories/limits are showing on the gantries above:
The Chronicle can reveal there are two operational speed cameras – around a mile either side of Clacketts Lane – in both directions, meaning motorists heading in both directions can be clocked twice in a matter of minutes. Once you get used to their presence, they soon become an irrelevance

Day I had my car remapped, I just got carried away and was doing 95mph one time when a camera one one lane of m25 flashed... but only once.
Got home and read that anything above 95mph it would have flashed twice and that's when I would have been charged. One flash is purely to warn you to not speed. I have added more weight to my boot now to slow it down LOLL. Another money making scheme it seems. More money into the pockets of old farting politicians |

I think it actually goes to the council whose district it is in, could be wrong though.

These are going up on the M3. All part of the new smart motorways.
Tbh, if it improves traffic during the morning I wont mind. Will they be active on national speed? |

I once set a speed camera off on the opposite side of the road. Two blinding flashes in my face at night. Luckily I never heard anything about it. |

The next stage of “SMART” motorways will be the integration of car locations that will be obtained by cars transmitting their location. I don’t think it will be that far away before cameras are obsolete. Your car will report you for speeding. Most of the technology is already available in new cars to do this. The next phase will be the car automatically slowing down if you exceed the speed limit and then it will be auto driving.
You can already get insurance based on how you drive. Everything is recorded. Route, time, speed, driving style. The technology is already available. Nearly all major lorry fleets use it now to monitor their drivers. |
