is this likely to be a dual mass flywheel issue?
hey everybody hoping I can get some form of help here.
the symptoms I have are a whirring noise which kind of sounds like as if brake discs are on there way out if anybody can relate to this noise its almost like a metal on metal noise...metallic rubbing noise, assumed this was the brakes & proceeded to replace front brakes as were 8k left in pads and original discs. discs now bedded in & although the noise is not there when I am just rolling in neutral now (brake discs were shot) the noise is still there when the car is in gear. can not hear the noise above 35-40mph I would say & can hear it quite distinctly fat 15mph when slowing down, again if the car is not in gear no noise. I have a little bit of clutch judder which the indy said its there but nothing major, which is a dmf issue which is why I am thinking this could be part of said issue to however I have not heard many people complaining of this before. it has not got any louder of the last 1.5k miles and the clutch judder has got no worse either. any help or guidance is great just looking for a bit of peace of mind to be honest. sorry if not explained myself enough however that is the only way I can really describe it. Don't think it's a DMF issue to be honest. When they are shot you're more likely to get rattling/chatter and serious clutch juddering. The 2.0d getting mild clutch judder is not uncommon form what I've read various places, same complaints from 120d owners.
Not sure what yours is though, which probably doesn't help much I know! At first I was thinking wheel bearing, but they make MORE noise the faster you go. only being noticeable at such a slow speed would say to me it may be something under the bonnet (alternator bearings, water pump, belt pulleys, etc). Assume all your tyres are ok and not getting low? Tyres can make weird noises when they are the wrong pressure and/or nearly past their use by date - although, again it's normally something that is more noticeable at speed. |

Seems like every gear theres something there not so much when its cold though i'd say the front is still on run flats & coming close to the legal limit but wouldnt say that would cause the noise :/ when I took it to the indy he said he couldnt hear anything

Might be the clutch? Release bearing or something?

Clutch is not slipping, bearing is likely I guess seen as only does in gear. Tags what makes me think it's either clutch or Dmf related, seems to only be on deceleration & almost as in oscillation if that makes any sense

Surely there would be more symptoms to this? Indy I took it to gave it a once over when serviced & said everyone major seemed ok and not to worry about noise

Oscillation on deceleration sounds gearbox / diff related.
I had it on one of my previous cars. Turned out to be a bad layshaft bearing in the gearbox |

Didn't think of that! That would give the similar noise but new discs & the backing plate didn't look that battered up when I changed discs unless coming from the rear perhaps
