M3 Issues

Is anybody having issues with what appears to be a whine above 4k revs when you accelerate? It appears to be coming from the ns rear. I had a previous issue with a rattling exhaust shield that was repaired by BMW but that was os rear.

Also, the rear heated screen takes ages to work - we are talking it has the power of an asthmatic flea. Any ideas?

Just had a call from BMW and it seems that there are two carbon fibre tubes that run alongside the propshaft from the handbrake. On harsh acceleration the propshaft and these tubes are rubbing against each other. BMW technical have told the dealer to re-route these tubes as they know about the issue. The dealer has tried to re-route but they keep dropping back onto propshaft after driving.

So they are keeping the car to try and get to the bottom of it -no doubt I'll end up in a 320d loaner

Sounds pretty severe... haven't noticed this as of yet... then again, yet to bring in the car for its first service

I was told by the dealer that there is nothing wrong and that I should put on the car AC as this will speed up the rear screen demist. They'll be telling me next that to acheive the stated 0-60 time you must tune in to Radio 2 and have the AC set on auto with the fuel at half tank!!!!

They fixed the rattling propshaft hitting the handbrake cables - I think they used no more nails.

I leave my AC on constantly in Winter, windows mist up all the time otherwise.

Do you leave your AC on? My rear window demists in under 1 minute!

Try pulling the handbrake on and off when moving very slowly in a straight line.

You should have AC on auto all the time. Modern cars need it on to reduce humidity. The fact you turn it off will be adding to humidity in the vehicle causing the window misting in the first place.

It's not just for cooling but constant background dehumidifying too.

Things have moved on in the last 20 years, variable vane compressors and climate control means the system is very efficient.

Leave it on...

Low battery state of charge can cause rear window demister to have a low voltage thus causing it to demist slowly, this is one of the first things to drop in voltage/not work when battery is low..amongst other consumers.
