Newbie after info

Hello all!

First of all, Hi. i'm Dave, 25 from Lincs, UK.

Totally new to this forum, but have been on many car forums in the past.

The reason I've joined is I'm looking to buy a 335d touring, so after racking your heads for info before I go view.

A work colleague is selling his 2007 pre LCI 335d touring. It's done 100k miles, which put me off at first but after reading some posts on here im not a bit more reassured.

He bought it at two years old with 70k miles on it, and a full bmwsh.

Since owning he has maintained himself.. but to be fair, he is a mechanical tech at work.

It looks in great condition on the pictures bar a few chips. Comes with MV2 alloys with a good amount of rubber left.. and for the right price he's going to chuck in some bmw rep wheels with winter tyres.

Its had the turbo vacuum hoses replaced, which I believe is a common fault, but thats pretty much it.

Basically I want to rack your brains as to wether theres anything I should be particulary looking out for on this car. Obviously theres the kind of checks you would do on any car.. but anything specifically to look out for on the 335d?

Thanks in advance,

Dave

Welcome to the forum!

MV2 wheels on E91

As for the 335d. the turbo actuators and pressure converters are pretty common problems.

100k miles is nothing to worry about IMO aslong if its had the common problems sorted (prefer this than buying 70k car which hasnt had actuators or converters changed yet)

335d is a fun car to own. and knowing its had main things changed it will be even better. i would blank swirl flaps though if you get it if not already done and change glowplugs while your at it. just for peice of mind and wont really break the bank

when they are re mapped they are weapons!

DPF can give (expensive) problems. Some block earlier than 100k and others are working fine many miles on.

Also the ZF autobox should have had the fluid and filter changed somewhere between 60,000 and 80,000 miles. If you have it done make sure whoever is doing it really knows what they are doing, ie use a ZF specialist.

He's not done many miles in it over those years. I would try and find out where he drives it, if it's lots of short town trips the DPF could be clogged up

As far as i'm aware the actuators and pressure converters have not been changed. Just the vacuu hoses. Is this something that should be changed as preventative maintenance or is it usually replaced when failed? At what cost can these be replaced at?

As for the swirl flaps, ive never had a diesel before.. so what are these for, and what benefit does blanking these have? Apologies but I'm not mechanically minded!

Thanks for the info though everyone.. greatly appreciated!

Welcome!

Watch for the "red boost pipe" issue (cheapish to fix, search forums there's loads on it) and also EGR and main thermostats which tend to go eventually too.
