JB4 F30 EWG Specific Board
Anyone using the ewg specific board yet? Is there a noticeable difference / worth it to upgrade? $135 - $100 for sending old board back in.

Benefit is that it futureproofs your JB4. I noticed a bump in power and torque when dyno'd compared to same dyno previously with old board.

After EWG board swap, back to dyno to fettle map 6.
Peak numbers increased by 15 bhp and 15-20 lbft at the crank. The real winner though for me was 375+BHP from 4500-7000rpm and 400+lbft torque from 1500-5000 rpm.

Rusty,
Not sure about N20 platform but maps 1 and 2 on latest FW for N55 have adaption. Map for map, these seem to be stronger than previous FW versions <3.1 where 3.2 had aggressive map 1 [now map 2 in v3.3]. Map 1 should give you some improvement but nowhere near the same as getting your car custom map 6 set up correctly. Definitely worth spending sometime on a dyno or road runs to gather logs and tweak settings to optimum.

N20 map 2 @+ 6psi - this must assume some bolts ons and higher grade fuel - v much doubt you will hit +6psi on a stock car. If Map 1 [and map 2] work for you and you're happy then leave JB4 to its own devices and enjoy ! BP

The new EWG is the future of the JB so most updates and features will be released on this so its worthwhile to consider as an upgrade.

Just sent an email off to BMS regarding the EWG board for those like me with the EWG N20 engine. Curious if it is worth it.

Do you guys know if the EWG board will work on a non EWG (pneumatic) car? I have a 2012 F30 335i that I want to put a JB4 on but many of the ones for sale are EWG boards..

2turbos,
If you are upgrading from the old board to the EWG specific board and using the same existing loom then you can choose to:- 1. remove power and earth connections [no longer required for EWG board]; 2. remove PWG specific plugs from your loom. Both the above are not essential more a choice if you wanted to tidy up the install ie less wires/unused plugs lying around. BP

Just installed this board today. Very happy with the results.
Huge improvement over Non-EWG specific board. Punchier and more natural feeling throttle response. Power feels more linear, less boosty, and jumpy feeling. The car feels awesome! Can't wait to put my catless downpipe on. Got to hand it to Berger Motorsports for raising the bar yet again. |
