320d e92 completely dead!
Afternoon lads, hope you all had a great christmas.
Got a massive issue atm, my cars completely dead and I can get it started at all. Theres no power even when I try jump start it from the front, even the AA couldnt get it going! I cant get to the boot at all because theres no power to unlock the boot and also Ive got a sub boot build which makes access a myth! Is there anything to do to get into the boot or to get the car started!? Thanks

Have you tried the key in the boot? Or a trickle charger on the front charge points?
When was the car last used? I bet it's just died with the cold. I went out Friday night and found two cars died with flat batteries in the snow! One jaguar xkr and the other a micra, needless to say they was both happy for my help |

Theres no key lock on the boot on e92s, well mine doesnt anyway! it died yesterday been using the car everyday before that! Havent got a trickle charger either but I thought it would start straight away with that booster pack the AA has! Ahh its so stressful!

Booster packs are not that good I dont think, they give out too much to fast and can cause more hassle then they are worth. Did you get the ignition on when the booster was connected? I would connect another car using jump leads, leave it on for about 10-15 minutes to allow the dead battery to come up to a reasonable level. Then try and crank your car over and see what happens.
If you do not get any lights on the dash or any sort of power in the car then I would consider trying to access the boot some how. to check all the battery connections are tight, if they are ok check your fuses aswell |

It will tell you in the manual I'm sure if it has an emergency opening key hole?
If you had no lights at that point then it sounds like something more serious, does your side lights work at all? It sounds like a really flat battery but without a charger your kinda stuffed? Where do you live? |

Unfortunately your a bit to far away for me to help,do you have any friends how might have a charger? Preferably with a current display so you can see if the car is taking a charge and if so how much. That will indicate if it's a dead battery or more a fuse or wiring fault.

Try with second key.
If nothing then focus on the battery.

Seen this a couple of times before without no warning whatsoever you lose everything if you insert the key sometimes you can't get it back out again meaning you've got to wrench the thing out, the usual suspects such as battery and IBS can be checked out but I've got another suggesting that it could be but as this is such a catastophic failure I think this isn't your porblem.
Behind the glove box area there's a fuse box(it'll just be visible once the gloebox is opened) with a cover and a main cable running(positive from memory) from it(oddly enough the AA/RAC seem to know about this fix too) The design of the fusebox located in the glovebox isn't or doesn't seem to be the best, the fusebox connection to the battery cable appears to be some sort of plastic clip, where you'd think they'd use a more robust bolted down connection. When driven, the battery cable gets jostled and electricity arcs between the connection it should be more stable but it isn't the connection can or seems to short out or the cable can become slightly detatched from the fuse box area itself and as said the AA/AC seem to know about this as we've had a couple in to us. You can simply reach around the back of the fusebox (on the left hand side from memory) and wiggle the main cable from the box until it regains electrical power. Though not in the UK this http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/...91I0TZ20130219 kinda says this issue isn't unheard of I've known of at least 2 patrols who've gone straight in and done this and got the car started. Thus when checked afterwards you don't see anthing wrong as the car using OEM BMW spec parts and nothing seems to be an issue, but the smallest jolt seems to result in total power failure, we've not witnesssed one go on us just cars either recovered or withte wiggle fix explained. One of our customers took the car to an car electrician who opted to do the fuse box his way. Last edited by old grey steve; 12-29-2014 at 12:56 PM.. |

Its this very cable I think that I've stated above routes through the car to hte fuse box mentioned it appears the routing may be the issue as well as the choice of components they've used to ensure a secure location to the fuse box.

My money is on battery. When AGM batteries go dead, nothing worst than them!
