Slid on the ice - Damaged Wheels

So I nipped round to a mates who's road was covered in black ice, I was probably driving at 10mph when the car slid into a kerb. It's resulted in both near side wheels being badly scratched.

Now it would seem the wheels have had a bad refurb/repaint prior to me owning it as all 4 wheels have very slight paint flake on them. The question is do I get them all refurbed properly or buy a new set i.e 19" m359's

The most frustrating bit is I've done over 30k in the car and never even kerbed a wheel.

By the way the car is a black 57 reg 320d M sport E90 with 18" 193's.

I feel your frustration, curbing a wheel is never nice. At least it wasn't your fault! Perhaps this is the reason you needed to treat yourself to some nice new 19" wheels, which will look better than 18s on your E90

Curbed my m359s within a week due to a crater of a hole in a car park and stretched tyres

Yeah, I feel it too.
I've kerbed all 4 of my 19" wheels since I got my car in July, not very bad, but noticeable nonetheless

If you hit the kerb with any velocity

If you hit the kerb with any real velocity you may also want to have your alignment (toe in & camber) checked. You don't need to be moving fast to apply a lot of torque to your suspension units when hitting an immoveable object like a kerb. If you hit with enough force that you felt the bump, its worth checking as the first you'll know otherwise is when you've trashed an otherwise perfectly good set of tyres.

BTW, even winter tyres slide on black ice.

Go for the m359's although mine are now fully shiny on all 4 wheels as the wife loves a kerb

I think I will get the tracking checked over as it felt like the car took off when I hit the kerb. Quite a shock considering how slow I was travelling.

I have been looking at replacing the car with a 3.0 litre diesel coupe or a touring so it's even more annoying having to spend on it.

Wouldn't recommend 359s if you don't want to curb them

Never curbed a wheel till i got these, now 3 are marked.

Even before that, they became stonechipped, pretty frustrating.

Above. I just UPGRADED from 18" to 19" with brand new wheels from Chris at ********. Am so ANAL now and avoid Kerbs, Potholes, multi-story carparks and even letting the Mrs drive!

Would have cost me £412 to have the 18" re-furbed, and new 19" where £520!

Ride and LOOK is SOOooooooo Much Better!

Go Treat the car!

Get them on you fanny I was gonna put my MV's back on but couldn't be bothered, I bought the 359m's from CMW so I wasn't that bothered if I bumped them as they didn't cost 3k like genuine ones do.
