Angry (Wiper blade issue) 4 series owners have a look please, does this look right to you?

Took the car the other day for its first oil change to the possibly the worst dealer in Chicago area (Perillo bmw) for it's first oil change. After 3 hours (just for an oil change) the car was ready, however I noticed in the receipt the wiper blades were changed! (No charge)

I Asked the service advisor why the blades were changed since they were working perfectly fine, he gave me some rubbish about how this was part of their winter service!?

Having had several issues with the service department already, I was already expecting they might have screwed something up Again and tried to fixed it.

The wipers are working, however I think the passenger blade is sitting higher than where it is supposed to sit. I appreciate it if you could have a look and see if I'm being paranoid or there is actually something wrong with the passenger blade?

Thanks ever so much,

Arash

I don't know the answer to your wiper placement issue, but to answer the other question... Yes, it is routine to change wiper blades before winter. That's when you should.

All I can say is that is not the neutral position on the F30. Don't know about the F32

Just push the arm back down. They pull up and down to clear the hood.

I did push it down but it goes back to where it is now once you use it again!

Honestly, the wipers on my F30 rest like that maybe 50% of the time. The other 50% the blade is low and where it should be. I've just learned to live with it, but my driver's side blade has issues where it's applying too much pressure on the down stroke... Dealer already replaced the blade and the arm.

Just E-mailed their service department director notifying him of the issue. I wanted to make sure if there's actually a problem before I go there.

They have the worst service department, I go there expecting problems!

Does not look the same as mine.
I suppose that place is your only option for service, right?

I'd take a ride over to the dealer and check out some other cars on the lot. If the wipers look different than yours, then you can bring it to the service managers attention and show him exactly what you are talking about. If the wipers look the same as yours, that should put your mind at ease.

That's 10 minutes away from my house, the next closest dealer (Laurel BMW) is an hour away. I actually tried to book an appointment with Laurel but they were booked solid until after christmas.

I'll probably do that tomorrow. I'm more certain there's definitely something wrong with the wiper arm since it was raining today and when the blade was going down there was a little (1 inch) jump at the end!

Our car isn't here ATM but that resting position doesn't look normal to me.

My wiper rests about an inch above where the two seals meet together, just below or even with the bonnet.

My initial reaction to your pics was "that's way too high up, something's screwed up". Then I went and looked at my F30 (I can't imagine they'd design the wipers and their placement much different). Mine is like that too. Maybe not quite that high, but that could just be different placement of our inspection stickers. I would never have noticed if you hadn't posted. But I think this is normal or at least, not drastically out of whack.

That's where I thought it should've been.

This is what bothers me, seeing the wiper blade sticking out like that from the inside and also today noticing it's doing that jumping thing when it goes all the way to the bottom.

With my luck, I'd take it back to have them fix it....and they'd screw something else up or even wash my car even though I tell them "Don't wash my car".

Good luck OP.

Very easy fix.
At the axle where that blad is mounted remove the cap. you can loosen that screw nut a bit, then move the whiper arm to the correct Resting-Position and retighten that screw nut. Done.

Done that hundred times.

Thanks, I just don't understand how could they have screwed up the wiper arm when simply changing the blades. The only way I could think of is the guy just pulled on the arm trying to lift it from the underneath the bonnet.

If only these imbeciles working at the dealers knew about things like this :

This is what I do each time I wash my car. You would expect that the guys at the dealer would know how to do this. Maybe they do, and they just don't want to take the extra 2 minutes to do this?

Anyways, it seems like an easy fix and hopefully you get it taken care of shortly!

I'll probably take it to the dealer after the holidays.
