Need help with Brake light refusing to reset! brakes at ---- km/mi
I went to reset my brake mileage in the computer because it said i had 700 miles left on my rear pads. it was giving me a yellow car on a lift on startup. i did the procedure where you have the door closed, put the key in hold the mileage button and it comes up to reset. but once i did this, it threw a red brake light on the dash that is constant, the yellow lift changed to a red lift and now, it tells me "brakes at ----" after hitting the reset button. i tried disconnecting the sensor and reconnecting it in both front and rear and got nothing. any help would be appreciated.

Yea but it's coming up both front and rear when originally it was just giving me a warning for rear now it won't let me reset either and they both have the ----- next to them, I read to try to jump the connector and then reset it, that sound like it would work?

Replace both sensors at same time with new sensors and then try to reset. The reset won't hold for rear if front is also tripped and vice versa.

ok so battery disconnect did nothing, still getting ---- when i turn the car on and try to reset the sensors. like i said i replaced the red sensor so it should have let me reset it once i did that, but it won't let me reset front or rear....im not going out and spending another 25 bucks on a sensor for front pads when they are almost brand new and going through all the hassle of replacing that sensor just to find out it won't fix my problem. I'm lost on this whole issue and about to just bring it in to the dealer. my fear is their going to tell me its the DSC unit which i know is BS because if i damaged the unit just by prematurely resetting the brake service light these cars are shit.

sometimes you have to replace both the rear and front sensor first, then reset the brakes through the car. I had same situation as you, I just had to replace my rear sensor but sometimes you need both.

I think he means (and I agree) that if one sensor is showing as worn, the CBS logic won't let you reset the other even if it's new. You should physically replace both sensors, and then consecutively reset them via CBS stalk one after the other.

I recently replaced my rear brakes and after changing only rear pads and sensor, I reset both front and rear via CBS stalk and everything worked out just fine.. |

You're right, it shouldn't if the other sensor hasn't been tripped to the first stage (not open, but higher resistance). But I think the CBS logic is looking for a slightly difference resistance value, or perhaps a disconnect-reconnect sequence before it allows a reset.
All I can say for sure is, I have found the CBS logic to be ultra sensitive (probably too much so) and the only guaranteed method when nothing else has worked is to replace both sensors. I've run shorted sensor wires in the past with no issues, so I agree in principle with what you are saying. |
