Passing PA Emissions with Downpipe

Hello - I have a 2011 335i xDrive with Cobb AB V3, BMS Intake, and ER ChargePipe. I am looking to get a Downpipe so I can start running Stage 2 - but I am concerned about passing emissions.

Has anyone with a Catless Downpipe passed emissions? I have the COBB so an SES light shouldn't show but it would show as a failure when they hooked it up to the OBD reader.

What about a Catted Downpipe? Would that allow me to not throw any codes, show the O2 sensor is still working, and pass emissions?

The cost is a bit more for the Catted but I will have to pay someone to install it. So if I had to uninstall and then reinstall for emissions I might as well go Catted if it passes.

Thoughts?

Luckily they don't do emissions in Stroudsburg, PA.

You need to check and see how many OBD readiness checks they allow to fail and still pass the test. If you are allowed 1 readiness check to fail you can pass with catless downpipes (this is what MD is like). Your 1 fail will be the cat readiness check.

Thanks for the reply - I don't know how many readiness checks we are allotted, my guess would be zero. I will try to Google it and see what I can find.

Well that was easier to find than I thought - looks like we are allowed 1! So I may be good.

" For model year vehicles 1996-2000, a vehicle with two monitors that are “not ready” will be accepted for the OBD test and the test can continue; for model year vehicles 2001 and newer, only one “not ready” monitor will be accepted for testing and the test can continue. Any vehicle that has more than the allowable number of “not ready”monitors will be rejected from testing until the monitors have been set to “ready” which may be accomplished by performing a drive cycle specific to the vehicle. "

I was able to just drive in with my catless downpipes (didn't have the catback on yet) with my PTF protune 93 map and get my pass slip with 1 readiness check failed.

Nice - who did your PTF Protune and where? What did it end up costing you - as I am looking to do the same. Also did someone in your area install the downpipe for you?

Jake did it when he was at PTF but now he started his own company with Motiv Motorsports. He's an awesome and very knowledgeable guy. I went and got my 93 map dyno tuned with him at Frank Smith Tuning then did an etune with him for my e50 map. I have had my downpipes and suspension installed by Clem (e90post username) and wouldn't go anywhere else if I needed something done, numerous others will second this statement. He's over in Dayton, MD but worth the drive.

Awesome, thanks so much! I know Adam - he installed my suspension as well. I would go to him in a heartbeat but he is a bit far. If I can take the time off work then I may pay him a visit.

Appreciate the insight!

Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy a standalone DPfix for $75?
