m5 illuminated shifter on e90 -328i can it be done nice and clean

I'm looking at getting the f10 m5 illuminated shifter and boot and tapping into a power source in the console.

1st option. Use m5 shifter and retro fit boot onto my existing ring
2nd option. Use m5 shifter leaving my boot in tact and placing the m5 shifter on my existing boot.

Looking for some suggestions from those who have done this

I personally wouldn't put anything "M" on my 328, but that's just me. I'm sure it can be done clean though.

I'm pretty sure if future readers were looking to read they'd read a book. Just giving my .02 on what I would do.

Yes, it can be done nice and clean if you do it right, but I havent seen it in person.

I imagine it would be the same as installing any other lighted shift knob like this:

Off topic, but I really like the placement of the DCS and Power button in that pic. You can very stealthy press them.

One thing I don't like about the e90 is that many of the buttons require you to move your hand pretty far off the shifter.

I'm with you, I did however keep the M stickers on my rims because they're OEM M3 wheels, I think that's justified enough.

I have the M5 knob in my car. I love it, very comfortable and the shift pattern lighting up is a nice touch.

I would just place it on the existing boot. I don't see a reason to change it unless its worn out or you don't like it.

It's easy. Just disassemble the boot from the knob, and it'll plop right on. Find a power tap, and you're done! I had one on my E46. Loved it.

When the far better shift knob only comes with the ///M logo there's not much choice

I did it because when I got my car (3rd owner) the original 328 knob was shitty and the "aluminum" on it was peeling all the way around the edges which was evidently an issue for them...

That being said, I never try to tell people my car is M anything.
