M4 Side Protective Film

For those of you who took the delivery, does your m4 come with the film in the rear side as picture shown? Mine doesn't come with it, probably my dealer peeled it off. (Pic from GOLFFRR)

Ok I just checked mine again, the passenger side does have one... but nothing on the driver side. Must be peeled off by the detail guys.

Test drove a MW M4 at my dealer yesterday, and yes, it had this on both sides. I asked the salesman about this and he said that because of the way the front wheels protrude out of the side, the car is prone to stone chips in the area shown in the photo at the beginning of this thread. I've never heard of this before, and I wonder whether the front wheels really protrude any more than other cars? Have any existing owners had any problems of this nature?

I would have them replace it with Xpel ultimate film. Do the hood and front bumper while your at it.

ok good to see most of you guys have it. I first thought it was to be removed but it was on there pretty secure which led me to believe it was suppose to be on there for protection. I currently have it on both sides.

Garage List
This is very interesting. I know porsche has been doing this for years, it was even black in the olden days.

Nice to see some kind of paint protection from the factory. And nice to see that the stance is that much more aggressive than the standard 3/4 that it needs this.

Does anyone know if this comes on the M3? When I test drove the M3 I did not notice this. It would be weird if the M3 didnt have it as the rear fenders are even wider than the 4.

Good question. I certainly haven't seen it on the M3 based on pictures I've seen. If they did do it, it would have to be in 2 pieces given the rear door line.

Do you have any specifics on what they are using? Xpel? 3M? I have always put film on my cars and have used Xpel most recently with which I am very pleased but was thinking of not doing anything this time and just pay to retouch front spoiler when necessary.

Thanks

He wasn't sure but he said most likely 3M bc that is what they use for the M graphics on the DTM cars, and the performance graphics etc.. However not 100% sure. Sorry

Related question then for all you detailers out there: How should we treat the film when it comes to sealing/waxing? Just apply products in the same way, or leave them untouched when detailing the car? I ask because (slightly sadly), my first task when I get the car will be to get the car home and apply a paint sealer whilst the paintwork is unblemished.

It hasn't been on any ///M3's that I've seen.

It is on the M3 as well, but quite a bit smaller than on the M4.

Best regards,
south

The M3 I looked at last week had it on both sides. Much smaller than the patch on the M4....just on the lower outer front edge of the fender bulge

I'm sure some do. I just haven't noticed it on any that I've observed in person. Maybe the dealers peeled it off during prep??!

Let me put it that way, all of them are supposed to have the side protective film.

Best regards,
