Will rear-view camera be standard in MY2016?

Does anyone know if the 2016 M3 & m4 will change around its option packages. All I really want is rear-view camera out of executive package. thanks

I think so. If you look back at other BMW models, most info comes out in March or April.

Don't worry, you won't miss it because the forum will have a thread about it and the bimmerpost homepage usually will link to it. There are more connected people than me who want this info.

Here is a link that gives EOP date for F80/82/83 of 6/15. Should indicate SOP for 2016 F80 for 7/15.

Hope that helps.

Obviously I shouldn't be allowed to type any comments after bed time. Here is the link

Acoss the pond here, us limeys can order the rear-view camera as a standalone option. I never understand why the US options are rolled together into this exec package.

It's not all good news, mind. The government then taxes the hell out of the car and its fuel.

Well the BMW UK website has changed the officially rated HP (now though not for 2016) to 447. This used to be 431 I'm certain but I think is just a change to the calculation used rather than a power upgrade.

Still in HP wars of old 447 sounds pretty good.

That's interesting. When I specced mine, it was at 437. Every little helps.

The rear view camera, I believe, is required to be a standard option on 2016 models. Am I wrong?

From my understanding, new US federal law states that all cars built in 2015 and after must have a rear view camera installed. So how BMW will 'charge' for this should be interesting cause they still make people pay for it some way or another.

from what i remember when this was announced, it was to start in May 2016 but 100% compliance would be required by May 2018. So I don't know if BMW will be proactive and start adding the camera in the 2016 models. My hope is that they do cuz it will surely eliminate the requirement for the exec package for me

The law actually requires the camera to be installed on all cars built after May 1, 2018.

I could have sworn it was sooner, but that's for the clarification. I bet they pushed it back a few years from their original plan of 2015 (I heard this news a couple years back so that would explain it)

They would have just rolled those costs into another option that ought to be standard or roll them into an option that is highly sought after.

Like I stated above, the initiation phase is May 1 2016 and it becomes mandatory by May 1 2018. Manufacturers can opt to start introducing it starting May 1, 2016.

They'll simply raise the base MSRP of the car. They do that on a fairly regular basis anyway, both with and without the addition of (or revisions to) standard equipment.
