Back from dyno........doesn't seem to be a boost leak!
Sorry I've been bugging you all w/ boost leak questions, seems they were unjustified.
Just got back from my local shop and did 3 quick pulls to see what my car was doing. 1st run was w the bypass plugs in. The car had been sitting w/ the battery unplugged for a good hour prior to leaving the house this afternoon to head to NAPA so the adaptations had been reset. I had driven the car for a good 45 minutes in rush hour traffic before I got the call from the shop that the dyno was finally open, so the car was well heat soaked. Got to the shop and went right up on the dyno, no cooldown. Car has 20k miles on it and its STILL on the 1st stock air filter.....its pretty damned dirty so i'm sure its killing some power. Their fan was broken too so these runs were w/ out a fan.....car was good and hot. I'll have the printouts tomorrow hopefully, their printer was broken and they can't email. It was on a dynojet w STD/5 settings. To the best of my memory stock - 286hp, 289lb ft V2 at 94%, zero adaptation time or cooldown - 345 hp, 358lb ft V2 at 95%, zero adaptation or cooldown - 346hp, 364lb ft So it looks like my car is a bit down on torque and hp, but not far off. I'm sure a new air filter or cold air intake plus some cooldown time after rush hour and I'll see some better numbers! Here is the 4th gear datalog from the 95% pull. Still only in the 12.5psi range even w/ NO fan blowing on the intercooler.....very curious to see the hp levels at 15psi. Ambient temp was 65 degrees.

Don't be surprised if you see another 10-20whp with a functional fan in front of the IC.

nope, the thing decided to kick in the bucket when the rear mount turbo Camaro SS before me was dynoing.......he put down over 900whp. Heard it leave, pure sex. Thats a sound a 335 will never make.
I said screw it and lets get that thing strapped down.....at least now I know I dont have a boost leak.

Especialy with the new Forge valves huh?
I can't see your pic here at work but I'm interested to see your curve with the new Forge DVs.

346 rwhp
364 rwtq on 95% settings, on a hot engine, with no fan and a stock air filter with 20K miles on it???? I'd say your car is running strong. Funny how you thought it was down on power and had boost leak. lol I take it you are on 93 Octane too. If so, that would be about right. I'd say you'd be at: 355-358 rwhp 370-375 rwtq with a clean air filter, and a fan keeping the car cool. For comparison, I did: 345 rwhp 352 rwtq on 92 Octane with settings at 92%...so as you can see, with your higher octane and higher torque settings, you are right where you should be (at least you would be if you had a fan on and a clean air filter). |

After that Forge DV's went in and went back and retightened all the intercooler clamps I was 75% sure I didnt have boost leak based on the way the car was performing. That was only in the last week, before that I was only seeing 9psi or so. I just couldnt be sure though as I dont have a boost gauge installed....why again did BMW not include one on this car? I havent seen a boost gauge install that I like so far btw. Fact of the matter is, according to the Procede software I'm still not at the prescribed boost. 12.5psi at 95%. Its gotta be something w/ the aftermarket intercooler being so much larger. But the power seems to be there......

It was the latest year......what was that? 2002? I forget now, but that car was clean and sounded amazing. I didn't ask for details, but it sounded like a fully built motor w a serious turbo. Based on the numbers it put down thats probably right. I actually just found out tonight that the guy dynoing my car tonight had a record breaking Supra. 7.9 in the 1/4 on BFGoodrich drag radials at some crazy mph....180 I think. Pictures of it all over his shop. That was several years ago I think. He was pretty impressed w the 335. I kept telling him he needs to make a good CHEAP oil cooler upgrade and he'll make some $$. Now he wants to make some custom DP's for me. They had a turbo in their showroom that was the size of a pizza.....it was ridiculous. 91mm turbo I think, it was in the showcase because they just upgraded to a larger one on their race car......

As far as custom DP's that would be an interesting project if the price was right. I mean Shiv is working on a custom map right now, so you have nothing to lose if the price is right. The oil cooler would also be another great idea for anyone. If someone could make a Dinan Replica and price it right, they could make some serious cash... Congrats on everything bro.... |
