Active Suspension and Springs
I know its not advised to add performance springs with active suspension but my questions are these:
1. Can I add Performance Springs and lower the car a bit? 2. If you can, other than the car being stiffer at ever setting what am I losing? 3. Has anyone added springs with Active Suspension and if so, do you like it? Sorry in advance if this is a repost... Thx! |

I am not sure why it is not advisable to change springs specifically on active dampers, I would imagine the shocks would handle it better than standard ones. However, with any damper the issue is one of shock travel, if you trim too much on ride height you will upset the balance terribly. If you know how to setup a car, choose the proper height and spring rates, you may be alright. The problem is there isn't enough test data to show what may or may not work.
If you are talking about the aftermarket lowering springs, those are not 'performance' springs, they are only for cosmetic purposes. |

suspension design is a very tricky one, factory drivers spend hours and hours on Nordschleife and local roads setting it up so I would be really careful changing anything if performance is what you want, there is a chance to hit a good setup but there is much bigger probability the car will actually drive worse than stock

FWIW: I installed the F32 H&R springs on my F80 with adjustable suspension, and I am extremely pleased with the ride.

My M4 with Active Suspension arrives in 2-3 weeks and I spoke with my BMW Service Adviser/Parts Manager and I am lined up to install H&R Springs with wheel adapters coupled with a new alignment on day one @ the BMW Dealership
