Unhappy Robbed RABBLE RABBLE Radar Detector RABBLE RABBLE

Hey,
So....my car is always locked....like....always. To the point that when I go to my parents house (with garage) I lock it in the garage because it's just....muscle memory. In Rochester,NY, where I live, we live in a 200 year old home and don't have a garage, we park our cars in the driveway. My car was parked behind one of my roommates cars and there was no chance of getting it out.

This morning I walked to my car and noticed my car door hadn't been shut properly. So ok, I must have forgotten to close the door I thought. Then I looked into the passenger seat and saw all the gas receipts I keep in my center console were just sitting on the seat. Ok, so the air must have blown them around when I opened the console and I just didn't notice? I turned the car on and didn't hear any beeping....or music. OK WTF. Where's my Valentine.....Where's my F*CKING VALENTINE. WHY IS NO MUSIC PLAYING, I HATE THIS F*CKING IDRIVE. *Opens Console* oh.....my ipod....cable....and phone charger are gone.....F*CK! F*CK! F*CK! uh.....damn......*drives to school*

SO! Now I'm out a radar detector, ipod, cable, and charger, and will probably be putting a bat within arms reach for future needs. I've already contacted Tischer about a new cable and factory alarm retrofit. Now I need a new radar detector and iPod. I'll be getting the iPod classic...cause I think the Touch is a complete waste of money and I have too much music. But now onto the radar detector.

My family used to use K40. They don't like seeing things on their dash and didn't like showing radar detectors to cops. Then the K40s started getting water in them and stopped detecting cops and this and that, and they switched to Valentine One. So I've been using Valentine One since my first car and love it. However, I have noticed it's annoying as hell for no reason most of the time, and unfortunately I'm on probation (too many speeding tickets too quickly) and even though I don't speed often (I've certainly learned my lesson, especially since I race now and don't need to speed to feel exhilarated in a car), when I do it's not much over and I would hate to lose my license for 44 in a 35 so I need something that I can trust. However again, I'm fairly near the city in Rochester, NY which isn't exactly the safest place so I'd rather not have the V1 on my windshield.

I guess my question is....is the K40 as bad as people say now? It's basically my last option (I really don't want anything visible) and I don't plan on using it for laser...I'll get a Blinder for that . Basically, will the K40 tell me what I need to know, even if it detects 5% less cops than the V1?

Thanks,
Dave

Call 1 800 331 3030 and tell Valentine Research your V1 was stolen and give them the serial number. If anybody every tries to get it updated or fixed for any reason, Valentine Research will hold your V1 and contact you to tell you they have recovered your stolen V1.

You do not want a K40 because it is a piece of crap with average radar detection and it can't jam any lidar guns used by police.

Just get a returned V1 and save a little money:

Call Valentine Research at 1 800 331 3030 and ask for a returned V1 and you will get 10% off the retail price of $399. Tell them you don't mind being put on the waiting list. Guaranteed, they will ship a V1 out within 2 days. It will be the latest version V1.8 POP2 w/ Euro-mode and 3.863 firmware and that comes with all the accessories and a 1 year warranty.

There are many stealthy ways you can install your V1 so that it can't be stolen.

tjnptel1 lol, yea I'm actually not SO SO upset because last time I checked my detector was 2 or 3 generations old and my iPod was getting close to filled so as much as I'm pissed I'm kind of excited for new stuff And I can sort of finagle this stuff into my budget this month so it's not all bad.

And just hypothetically besides the V1 and K40, any input on the Bel STi-R? It's the remote mount of the STi Driver...

Does this sort of thing get covered by comprehensive insurance?

Ipod: $250 + 8% tax = $270
Valentine: $399
Ipod cable from Tischer: $200?

=$870 > $500 deductable??

Can you point to a few of these? Right now, mine's mounted in a not so stealthy place...

It would be a mistake to place an insurance claim. This is one step closer to a rate hike

I'm not an expert, but man, wouldn't that be a pisser ... a no-fault situation like a theft, and they still use it as a risk assessment.

FYI, if you're ever AT FAULT for a theft, then you dont get money. The only time you get money is when you're not at fault and thus your rate should be hiked up. Otherwise, everyone would leave their portable navigations, ipods, cell phones, etc lying around all the time.

I really don't know...I don't think I've ever...like...EVER left my doors unlocked so I really don't understand how they got in. It doesn't seem like the door or lock has been damaged in any way....is there a way to tell if the lock-pop method or whatever our cars are really susceptible to has been used?

The more I think about it the more I think I'm going to end up getting a V1 Remote Kit from Tiger Lily and a Blinder M25. That'll give me good frontal protection, it's upgradable, and its really hidden.

It would be rather visible as far as I know if it had been forced open.

Do you have both keys?

I should add that my 3er was broken into when I was at university (in Phila.) but they broke the glass to get in and ended up taking nothing.

Had to go from west philly to DeSimone to get new glass. PIA. I feel for you.
