Hello and How many keys ?

Hello !
I have been browsing this site for some months now and always been entertained and informed.
I would be grateful if you could help me with a question regarding the number of keys that should be supplied.
My father bought an ex-demonstrator E90 325i SE A on a '56' plate with 'normal access' from Scotthall Southampton ~ July 2007.
He was given 2 'keys' which fit into the dashboard slot.
On opening the glove box recently he noticed an adaptor type receptacle housing in the glove-box but has no key to insert into the adaptor.
It seems logical that something is missing.
The salesman is now arguing that no extra keys are supplied for this model, contrary to the handbook. I think that my 68yr old father is being lied to.
In view of the above I would like to know how many keys are supplied for the UK market as my own E46 has 4 !
Thanks in advance.

All I received with my 57 plate E92 was the two fobs.

Are you aware that a normal ‘key’ can be revealed from the fob?

Pinch the two textured areas at the back of the fob and slide the rest forward - this reveals the key.

Is this what fits in the adapter you’re talking about? Or are you referring to where the rechargeable torch plugs in?…

Hi Viv and welcome.

I received two remote control keys for the dashboard slot and an additional thin spare key which fits into the adapter in the glovebox. Therefore, your should have also been supplied with the spare key in addition to the two remote control keys. Whoever is holding the spare key could technically unlock the car, insert the key into the adapter and drive off!!

Hello

The shell in the glove box is for the "pocket key" that should have been supplied. It looks like a thin bit of black plastic and fits in the shell.

It's a back up system so that if you lose the main key, you can use the pocket key to unlock the car and can start the car by putting it in the shell.

So to summarise - you should have two normal keys, and the pocket key / shell combination (kept separately of course).

Thanks for your prompt replies and warm welcome guys.
The 'pocket key' is therefore missing.
Time to talk to the salesman.....

I think it was somewhere around March'07 that they stopped providing the plastic key and so the adaptor in the glovebox. The salesman is probably confusing himself with the current situation.

For some reason I got 3 normal 'keys' with my car but this was an anomaly; they should be supplied with 2.

BTW welcome VN. I once bought a car from that particular dealer which unfortunately is something I won't ever be doing again...

Welcome Viv from me.

Our March 07 (registered) 3 was supplied with just two slot in type keys and nowhere in the glove box to plug anything in, apart from one of Sergies torches of course.

Regards

Chris

Welcome to the forum.

I have a 56 plate 330i, which came with 2 key fobs and the plastic key, to be used with the adapter in the glove box.

As has been said already this was dropped sometime in early 07, but your car should have it.

On the back of the key it says "for engine start use only with adapter in glovebox"

I'm not sure if you can actually open the car with it.

If you open the car with it the alarm will go off - it'll let you in too.

As I did at the stealers trying to get my stuff out of my car to their loaner at the wash station.
