Intermittent noisy interior fan motor

I have a 2008 BMW 328I and periodically it sounds like someone is sticking a pencil in the fan blades of a fan. Can anyone tell me what is going on; it just started this a week or so ago.
Regards
Walter

Debris is in it. Remove the fan motor and clean it out. It's also a good idea to lubricate the fan bearing at the base of the motor.

Not necessarily caused by debris. The fan motors are a common issue in these vehicles due to moisture that gets in from the windshield cowl area and kills the bearing. Mine made a sound similar to what you describe, but only when cold and when going around a corner (placing lateral force on the bearing). I replaced the motor nearly 2 years ago and it has been fine ever since. It's literally a 10 minute job.

Anyone know how much the fan costs if I wanted to replace it? Anyone is SoCal that help me do this?
