Question Optimum shift indicator

Has anyone figured out how to activate the optimum shift indicator (not the shift lights)?

Or maybe it is a feature not available in North-America...

Weird, so you are saying your car is not showing shift points? My f80 MT was delivered with the shift indicator activated. Wonder if it's a pre-delivery option that needs to be turned on by the dealership before final delivered? Other than that, I have seen no option in the IDrive to turn this on/off. Frankly, the shift suggested points, being far to conservative, are not even close to my actuals, for what it's worth.

mine shows the shift points but i think it only shows them when you're in efficient mode. i dont think it shows them if you're in sport or sport plus

It's on in my car (UK). I've not tried switching it off and don't currently have access to the car to try at the moment but the procedure on my E90 MT was to use the BC button to cycle though the displays (average speed/mpg/range etc) to show no data in the display then hold the BC button as if resetting one of the other selections.

Mine came standard with the shift points being displayed on the dash (NA car). I do agree though it is a bit conservative.

According to BMW literature, it is supposed to be on 6MT and DCT cars. Further the pictures I took off the BMW website clearly show a DCT car since it has the Drivelogic mode bars displayed...

They obviously used a stock image of the instrument cluster. The optimum shift indication is for manual cars only! The DCT in auto mode decides when the optimum shift point is reached.

Unfortunately I'm at the other end of the country to my car but it is showing as identical to the pics in the original post.
The only time it is not active is if it's in auto mode and the "ideal" gear it displays is the one it would self select if you were set to efficient/D1.

Is it only the m5 that can have the gear and shift indicator in the center and not under the rev counter (as pic):

I notice the pic shows "Efficient" engine mode - is that one pre-requisite? Perhaps Start/Stop must be on too? Dunno.

I keep Start/Stop turned OFF and have optimum shift indicator. Wife has the car at the moment so don't know if it is only in Efficient. Will check when she gets home. My wife hates it - says "Why should I be in 6th gear at 30mph??" I never notice it.

Well, no. The M6 / M6GC as well as the X5M and X6M share the same cluster. More precise to say that the M3 cannot have the indicators in the center. The cluster is different, it is based on the F3X platform cluster. The F1X M Cluster has a black panel that spans the width of the gauges. The F8X M Cluster black panel only covers the center section and stops.

IMO, one of the weaker points of the interior. I was hoping for a full black panel across the bottom. But at least it's not as hideous as the one in the F3X.

Mode does not affect this - works all the time.
