Exhaust questions. Need opinions
Ok guys. So I'm kind of new to the BMW game. I used to have a Mubtang GT and with that thing you can put whatever kind of exhaust set up you want and everything will be just fine. But now I have a 2010 E92 335xi. And what was true for the mustang exhaust I know is not the same for the BMW.
It's come to the point where Iv herd so many different things about this car that I don't know what to believe anymore, so please I want to hear every bodies opinion before I go and do something that will potentially mess my car up. Iv don't a few mods to the car and was recently looking to cut back and put my money in other avenues of my life other then my car. Before I stopped though I wanted to change my OEM exhaust to something different. For a little more sound. Knowing how pricy some of the exhaust systems are for these cars I was going to try and find something used from another member. A good friend of mine explained to me how that was pointless. That I was a lot better off keeping my OEM exhaust and just getting catless down pipes and finally doing a jb4 tune. I do like the sound of this option. BUT MY MAIN CONCERN IS, is that safe with the OEM mufflers? Too much back pressure? Am I harming my car? Iv been told Togo to muffler shops and get cheap magnaflows. That even that would be better to do with down pipes then the OEM exhaust. People say "don't worry about back pressure" and then I hear people say "THESE CARS NEED BACKPRESSURE!" I'm so confused guys. Honestly. Help! Lol And thanks for all your knowledge |

a huge number of people have put catless downpipes with stock mufflers I have never seen or heard of any problems because that far away from the turbos etc. in the exhaust the backpressure is negligible and besides our stock exhausts flow pretty well go catless and get a tune im about to go that route myself I have the bmw performance exhaust and dinan stage 2 currently

Your turbo's provide all the back pressure your engine needs. That being said, the more you can reduce back pressure down stream of the turbos the better, within reason. The turbos will spool faster with reduced back pressure therefore your power will come on quicker and with less strain on the turbos.
