Car shakes and loses power when OT

Hey guys,
I'm a little freaked out. My car (335) freaks out whenever I step on it hard. It seems to seize up and sputter then the service engine soon light comes on and my rpm meter sort of quivers whenever I touch the accelerator. It's happened twice, both times the car has kept driving (I just let it coast and tried to touch the accelerator as little as possible) and both times the light has gone away shortly after and things go back to normal.

Any idea on what's wrong?
Thanks!

it's usually coils or spark plugs..probably coils. It's a common issue dont worry about it.

coils are about 40$ each, once one fails you might as well do them all. You can do the work yourself it isn't very hard.

Read codes. Read the sticky for misfires, sounds like exactly what you're issue is.

How many miles on plugs?

on a sidenote i recommend the bmwhat app with an elm327 obd code scanner (on ebay), so you can easily diagnose issues with your car and code stuff..should set you back 65$ in all.

Misfire. Just had the same thing exactly happen to mine. Misfire #4. Just had car walnut blasted and moved coil on 4 to number one. If one misfires I know it's a bad coil.

2007 N54...yep, all this sounds about right.

I'm guessing the car has over 60,000 miles on it too, so I'd get a walnut blasting done too if I were you while you're at it -good luck sir.

I had the same problem when OT. It was my spark plugs. I got them replaced and car ran perfect again

Had my first misfire under WOT and the code showed multiple misfire on cyl 6 only. The misfire would continue until I shut the car off and restarted. I figured it was a coil or injector as a plug should come back on line out of boost. Ordered 2 coils ( 1 spare ) and it fixed it.

Don't plan on replacing all of them unless it becomes an epedemic. Do most guys do all of them? Car has 140kkm but not sure if they are all original.

I can only relate my experience, which is that they failed one after the other. Replace one...two months later another went. Replaced that....three months later... etc. I finally just replaced all the remaining ones. I had the dealer do it, but if I had to do it over I suppose I'd do what you're doing - always keep a spare on hand, and when I use the spare, replace it.

Spark plugs!
Replace all of your plugs and test it out. 90% of the time it's just in need of new plugs.

If that doesn't work, then do coil packs.

Wasn't being sarcastic sir, was being truthful.

It sounds like those issues would happen with an 07- I don't see where that's a problem. Hundreds of threads can't be wrong

Pretty normal for any tuned engines, even N55s. The spark plugs will fail prematurely.

DN - I think Miller was implying that your response didn't address the OP's question, and therefore wasn't helpful. Dunno?

e.g.:

Question: "My car is having this problem, any idea what it might be?"
Answer: "Your car is an '07."

OP might not know what that means, specifically.

I guess with burns my ass the most is Miller didn't fully quote my reply, during which I clearly said some things that further supported my claim of it being a 2007- only implying it was an older car and probably in need of several of the suggestions that several of you posted ("all this sounds about right" was meant to mean everything everyone posted in response sound like valid things to check.)

I didn't just say it was a 2007 to be an asshole, and I even suggested a walnut blasting if it was a higher mileage 335 to further try to help, and also said good luck, but whatever...

Taking people's statements out of context and just using what you think works to make somebody out to be a dick is kinda shitty...just saying.

haha - even I read your post as: "OP, everything that you are saying is wrong with your car sounds just about right, given it's a 2007."

Human words. So confusing Peace out.
