New car : dealership adventure...

Hi,

bought a 2011 335i m-sport 6MT 2 months ago, love it since the first day!

When I bought it, comfort access wasn't working on the passenger side, it was impossible to lock or unlock using the passenger handle.

I decided to wait for an oïl change at the dealership to get it fixed. But since last week, the passenger door doesn't want to lock at all, I have to push on the door pin to lock it. The actuator tries to pull the door pin down but it can't. It makes a knocking sound in the door...

I went to the dealership yesterday and what a surprise, it is not covered under 4 years / 80000 km warranty! They said someone has already removed the door panel for whatever reason.

It looks like the small rod coming from the actuator is bent and need to be changed... This is very strange since the car hasn't been involved in any accident or insurance claim/ quotation according to carproof...

Do you know how hard is it to fix? Stealerships quotes 205$ ( 18$ rod + 1.25h 136.95$/h...) What I cant understand is that it took 15 minutes for the tech to open the door panel, diagnostic and close the panel. Why 1.25 hours ? Do you have to take off the actuator?

Here is a pic of the rod from an actuator: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2004-2014-BM...df24e0&vxp=mtr

The BS that some of these dealerships get away with is astonishing. Try taking it to another dealership. Even changing advisers can sometimes make a big difference. Your car is under full warranty so you can't take no for an answer.

Sorry to hear. The door panel was probably removed for a bad actuator since they go out all the time. I replaced one in the drivers door. It isn't very hard...easier if you have small hands. There is a DIY write-up on here if you want to try and save some money.

Bmw Canada doesn't have any history that they had to remove the door panel for any reason, no actuator replacement... This is why they do not want to cover it. Closest other dealership : over 100 km away.. It is impossible to explain why the rod bent, dealer tech said it is the first time he saw this problem...

In order to swap the rod for a brand new one, do I have to remove the actuator from the door?

I changed the rod by myself, took me 45 minutes and I took my time... Dealer quoted 1h20 for the job and I am not a mechanic... It now locks and unlocks properly.

However, Comfort Access still doesn't work on passenger's side... Is there a fast way to know if the handle harness is properly connected? The light in the bottom of the panel works when the door is open if it helps...

Thanks again

Sounds like their IET needs to do a time standard study.. That's what I do for a living is time standard studies (amongst other things) for the government.. Industrial Engineering Technician.. BMW actually losses money if the time standards on these jobs are bogus as you could imagine..

What I don't understand is how you can buy a BMW and not afford the maintenance cost, or repairs needed.

What I don't understand is how you can buy a bmw and pay for repairs whem you are within 4years 80k km. If you're willing to pay 136.95$/hour when your car is under full factory warranty, we are not living on the same planet.
