So I was on my way back from New Hampshire after I filled up with a tank of 91 octane

I would also like to add that about 110 miles into my trip, I found a Mobil that offered 93 octane right around a bit less than half a tank, and was obliged to fill up with that octane. If I recall correctly it also had 10% ethanol.
The prior fill up was Shell 91 octane, about four days prior. Outside temps started out around 49 degrees that day in North Conway New Hampshire, and by the time I got back into the tri-state area it was nearly 60. On my last leg of the trip- right before the GWB- there was stopped traffic. Suddenly, my RPMs start dropping below 1K and the car starts shuddering a bit. I had to rev the engine a couple of times, and I was scared that I would stall out at one point. So does octane REALLY make that much of a difference if my tune was flashed for 93, or was it just a coincidence? |

Sorry I think it was actually below 1K normally, but it was dropping even lower intermittently, and that's pretty much what caused the car to shudder. I suppose it is worth checking out though. Some days I think I'm just going to go back to stock- screw these flash tunes.
Since the old Dinan rep left, Prestige BMW in Ramsey NJ is shit with customer service, at least on the Dinan front. The new rep has not called me back in over two months, even after two emails and two voicemails, which is ridiculous. Granted, it was an inquiry about removing my strut braces, but I can't help but wonder if I was interested in their big brake kit how fast I'd get a response back. I should do it just for shits and giggles, and when they respond I'll tell them to go fuck off. Now I'll have to go to circle BMW all the way in Eatontown New Jersey to get service should I need it on any Dinan related stuff /endofrant |

91 octane with a 93 tune wouldn't have anything to do with a rough idle. The thing I would worry about is going WOT under full boost on 91 if you're tuned for 93 because it could cause knock. To answer your question, it was probably a bad batch of gas. I had a similar issue over summer when I had a half tank of gas and it was from a gas station I've never been to before and it started idling really rough, I went a gas station I usually go to and filled up all the way and I never had the issue again.

Ramsey sux, try Tenafly(excellent customer service). I bought my car at Ramsey, I wanted test the sales guy knowledge and asked where is the dip stick on this thing? Lol he spent like 5 minutes looking for the thing.
BTW how did warranty work go on roof? I think you mentioned something about a 5 series in previous posts, I say pull the trigger on that.

One day I'll read the OBD port if I find it's chronic- so far so good now. I have 60 miles left in the tank, then I'll refresh with another 93 in the tank and continue to monitor. Thank you all. Perhaps the moral of the story is don't fill up with Mobil (at least not in Ossippe NH ) |

yeah, the octane isn't going to affect idle. no sane tuner is going to mess with idle timing, there's just no reason to. the only time it would really matter is above say, 50% load.

Check your ignition coils too, I had a rough idle and it was the ignition coils. By that time the dealer already charged me for a complete ecu reflash and deleted all my codes which did not fix the issue.
