Catless downpipes e90
Ok, I just got new 3.5" ss tips put on, a resonator delete and the secondary cats replaced with an x-pipe. The tips look great and the sound is awesome so far. It is definitely deeper and has a nice growl to it.
My next plan was to get VRSF catless dps put on so I can go to stage 2. Before I left, the muffler shop recommended that I have them make downpipes for my car instead of buying aftermarket ones. Questions: 1. What is the size of the oem downpipes? I know VRSFs are 3" and wasn't sure if that was the same as oem or .5" bigger. 2. Could they just cut the primary cats out, straight pipe it and that work for stage 2? 3. I would probably save around $100-200 if they did all of the work. With that being said would you have custom downpipes made or just buy from VRSF? I'll try to get a video of the sound up tomorrow! |

I'd get VRSF and call it a day, they'll bolt right up, and will outlast the car i'm sure. Plus they've been proven by many.

I don't mean to sound pessimistic but there's now way they can make you 3.5" dp's that will offer the same fit and dimensions for anywhere less than what we sell them for. I absolutely believe they can make a catback cheaper than most offerings available but their downpipes won't be mandrel bent, 3", 304 grade stainless steel or have the same CNC flanges. It's simply not something anyone can do cost effectively in a one off situation.

You can't go wrong with the VRSF cat-less downpipes. The quality of the pipes and welds are out of this world for the price they are selling them for. I installed these myself and all I can say is that everything lines up perfectly in the right place for an easy installation. VRSF makes some killer products for great prices!

That's what I was thinking. Looks like I will be ordering the down pipes and fmic from Tiago in the next week or two. Can't wait to hear the difference in sound it will make! Stage 2+ won't be bad either

For the rest of us it can take up to 4 days, one or two broken O2 sensors after you break some perfectly good ones, a complete disassembly of the steering column, a new clock spring for the steering wheel controls when you break the current one and... a lot of swear words.
If you don't have a lift, you'll also feel like you've been gang bashed for the following week as you recover from all the cuts, bruises and sprains in all of your limbs. Get down pipes they said. It'll be fun they said. |

It took me around 5 hours, I had no lift, I just put the front wheels on ramps. The best thing to do first underneath the car before you start the installation is to drop the steering rack. This gives you a lot more space to access the turbos. It is literally held on by 2 bolts.

The only thing the shop can do for you cheaper is gut the factory cats. Size is not the issue, the restrictive cats are. There are/were several dyno's around the forum proving this.
