lets talk transmissions.
well i know that the difference between the ZF and the GM transmission is huge, but my 328i seems very jerky, its starts off slow then jerks you backward, i know that the tranny learns how you drive but what is going on?

Are you guys driving in D or DS mode? I drive in DS mode all the time. I know "D" mode is more gas efficient and I'll use it on long drives but DS mode is my daily commuter mode.
It seems fine to me when I shift, then again this is my first BMW. |

Drive in DS mode, it's more fun, and you can control when you shift, and get less jerkiness. |

Could it be the "start off assist" that you're feeling? I.e., the brakes continue to hold for a second after you let off the brake pedal. In the E90 AT models I've driven, that feature -- which should be an MT-only feature for starting on a hill -- was noticeable and annoyed the hell out of me.

I don't know what DS is like in the GM tranny, but I think it's overly aggressive in the ZF for daily commuting; holds it near 2k too much. I either shift manually or just leave it in D.

Sorry new hear and still searching. But can you turn off the SOA/Hill assist. I mean its nice and all on a hill, but its making parallel parking a little challenging when I try to ease back in reverse and I dont go anywhere. I am afraid its going to disengange and I will slam into the car behind me.

It's a bit aggressive with the GM transmission too. It holds the gear a lot longer than I'd like sometimes but hey, that's why we can manually shift, right?

ZF in the 335?
GM in the 328? What's the difference? I thought the 335, 535 and the M5 shared the same tranny? |

Not sure about 328, but in 335, D starts in 2nd and shifts to 3rd very quickly. go to DS or manually downshift to 1st to see what its like to start a 300hp engine in 1st there is a lot of powerbraking |
