Should I remove the Thermostat by-pass (Oil Cooler) ?
Hey fellas, with approaching frigid temps here, should I remove the BMS thermostat by-pass ? my gauge this morning didnt even hit 190 F - it was 29 degs outside - I think car runs strong 180 - 190 range but its warming up almost 30 mins after driving, should this be a concern ?

Yes i would living in chicago especially if you have days of short driving distances your oil may never get to optimal temps and cause more wear

I'd remove it for winter, or cold months so the car can get to optimal running temps. Assuming your daily drive isn't long enough to let the car get up to that temp.

As long as the temp rises above the pegged minimum, for a few minutes, I'm sure you're ok. Hell my car barely reaches op. temps and I don't even have an oil cooler. I work 10 minutes from home though.
The only way I could see the car being affected by not reaching normal temps, would be if it rarely reached them. I assume you drive on the weekends and bring the car up to temp so I wouldn't be worried. The only downfall to leaving the stat blocker in would more than likely be a longer time for heat to work. |

It's not about running the oil/engine hotter. It's just the time it needs to get over ~175°F, because it normally takes 10-15 minutes until the engine is warm up and can start driving faster. I never rev the car above ~2500rpm when it's could and accelerate slowly.. but damn 10-15minutes can be a long time when you want to drive your car
