JB4 install: Leave flex fuel wires unplugged?

Hi everyone,

I live in Canada where we can not have E85. I'm about to buy a used JB4 Gen5 ISO and the flex fuel clips are on the harness.

I'd like to know if I have to plug the flex fuel clips even if I will not use e85 or I can leave them unplugged and be just fine.

thanks

If the wires are installed on the harness you must plug them in. You could remove he flex fuel wires by reconnecting the intercepted green wire on the harness and changing the fuel use setting back to normal

you'll have to plug them in since they've been hooked up to the jb4 and wires have been spliced, etc. but it won't hurt anything even if you don't use E85. Alternatively you can also disable the ff wires by setting "fuel open loop" to 0 on the jb4 user adjustments.

Thanks for your fast answer, I guess the best would be to plug them but they seem to be pretty hard to connect compared to theother clips of the jb4.

If I understand well, I could disable the ff wires by setting "fuel open loop" to 0 on the jb4 user adjustments and drive with the ff wires unplugged?

no i don't think you can leave them unplugged. Setting fuel open loop to 0 basically bypasses the sensor and acts like they're not there but I believe they still need to be plugged in. The sensor isn't very hard to reach actually. The first time I installed them I took the plastic cover off but after that I didn't bother since I knew exactly where the connector was and how to take it off.

ok Thanks again, I will plug those ff plugs and set open fuel loop to 0 and leave it there.

Being connected, I'll have the option to test e85 on an eventual road trip to the usa next summer!

Installing a used jb4, should I erase the existing maps and download the latest via bms?

I would update to the latest ISO firmware, no reason to mess with any maps as only Map 6 is user adjustable, the rest are set.

just to clear it up since you kind or worded that weirdly you don't have erase anything, just download the latest hex and update the jb4 with it, no erasing necessary. good luck!

Ok I wasn't sure if the update would overwrite previous maps, now I know!

Thanks again for sharing all those infos!
