My GT3 Paint Correction

I corrected the GT3 and thought you guys might want to see this.

So if you haven’t declared me crazy yet, you may change your mind should you decide to waste 3+ hours of your life to watch my goofy videos. I’ve already done a step-by-step paint correction using mostly photos in my other journals. For the GT3, I thought I would set-up my camera and talk you through my entire process.

Now I know there are lots of detailing tutorials and videos online, but they usually gloss over the details in interest of entertainment/production value or don’t want to divulge all of the secrets. I wanted to put something together for those that enjoy doing this stuff themselves. I’m not selling any products and don’t have an agenda. I’m just a super nerd that loves doing this stuff. I have a unique gift to do endless research and seem to have a ton of free time on my hands. I am simply posting this to share with others that are like me. That, and I don’t have any friends.

To qualify these videos, I am not a professional. I don’t detail for money. I will not detail cars that are not my own due to the time investment. My time is worth much more to me than the money someone would pay me. Not to mention, who would pay me my hourly rate to do this anyway? I don’t claim to know it all, but I’ve developed a pretty decent process through extensive research, spending thousands of dollars, and many years of trial and error.

There isn’t any techno music and there is a ton of dead space as I filmed pressure washing, polishing, taping, etc. I kept the camera running a lot during the videos and pretended I was talking to someone that wanted to learn what I know. I hope these videos help you skip some of the mistakes I’ve made over the years. Thanks for entertaining my obsessive tendencies.

Matt

Kind of a cool vid. Very helpful to see this level of detail by a non-pro. You didn't quite make it to the 18 hour mark where "you feel like you're gonna die"

I'm sure you mentioned this somewhere but why don't you like opticoat for the car?

And do you plan to get a PPF?

Yeah, that's why I didn't do the wheels and did the glass a few weeks prior. I'm glad I didn't have to compound the whole car. That moves you into 20+ hour territory. I don't know how guys do this everyday.

Opti-Coat doesn't give same depth and won't bead water as well as a good Carnuauba wax. I put it on my wheels and my wife's Explorer Sport. It just doesn't do it for me.

I don't like clear film. I can always tell when a clear film is on a car. I just prefer clean, corrected paint.

Speaking about corrected. I finally pulled the car out in the sun for the first time today. Everything looks perfect except one small area on the rear deck lid that I didn't hit with D300. Looks like I'm going to have to redo that area.

I've heard that about OptiCoat from some guys who are pretty into detailing. For me, the convenience and longevity might be worth it. But I do agree it doesn't look as good.

Don't think we saw a pic of the car totally finished, 2nd coat of wax, in the sun. Post up that beautiful blue!!

I love it! It is worth the premium over others. Just don't plan on using it for anything other than washing your car. It just isn't powerful enough.

Amazing job!!

I'm a bit of a detailing freak myself and spend a full weekend each Spring detailing whatever car I own at the time. Some people see it as work but I see it as relaxation.

After watching most of (not all ) of your videos, I've decided I really, really need a blue GT3. Time to go figure out how I'm going to break the news to my wife

That conversation is not going to go well. You need to ease her into it. I have a full proof multistage assault that involves asking for suggestions on color, what if's, compliments, gifts, begging, pleading, etc., etc...
