Arrow December 2007 BMW Group Sales Report

December BMW Group sales totaled 33,761 units for another new all time yearly total high for the BMW Group in the U.S. BMW Group sales this month increased only 1.0% over last December while sales for all of 2007 increased 7.1% over 2006. The 3 Series and the X5 were responsible for this result as all the other series experienced negative growth for 2007.

BMW automobile sales were down 6.0% this month but were up 6.6% for the entire year. X Series sales increased 11.3% in December and were up 8.9% for the entire year due to the intro of the new model of the X5 which was up 31.4% for all of 2007.

Sales of the BMW brand were down 2.4% this month and up 7.1% for all of 2007.

The Mercedes-Benz sales total of 27,269 units this month represents a 3.0% decline from the 28,115 units sold last December. However, YTD 2007 sales for MB were up 2.2% thanks to a 26.9% increase in sales for the C Class and a 40.6% increase in the GL “truck” line.

Lexus sold 34,555 units this month, down a surprising 7.2% from the 37,235 sold last December. Lexus YTD sales for all of 2007 were up only 2.1%.

So who is the sales winner for 2007? Again this year it depends on what you like to count. BMW wins in automobile sales with Lexus 2nd and MB 3rd. In trucks, Lexus was the big winner with MB a distant 2nd and BMW an even more distant 3rd. Combining cars & trucks gives the trophy to Lexus with BMW 2nd and MB 3rd.

I hope you have enjoyed my sales reports again this year. Unless something drastically changes in my life this is my last sales report. After preparing the BMW sales reports since the intro of the Z3 in 1996 it has become a chore with little reward for the effort involved. Maybe turning 70 has something to do with it.

Please note that I report only United States sales data.

I'd like to say a big thank you for the reports, which I have been reading on this and another board for several years now. They have been great and helpful -- it's nice to have info on how well the different products are selling at the time of purchase. Cheers!
