Help! 335i not starting after DME work
Hi, first post here on this awesome resource and I'm looking for some help...
So, I suffered the failed MOSFET syndrome that it seems is quite common to E90/92/93 with a MSD80, so I ordered 6 of them and replaced them all--well actually a local TV repair place did it for $50 (winning!). Brought the boards home, reinstalled in the DME case and put everything back together. Tried to start it and though it cranks, it doesn't fire at all. I've checked EVERY connection (there aren't that many) and every logical fuse. The P30BA that started it all is gone but now I get the following: ECU P2ACC, DME main relay, switch delay P29F3 P29DB I've checked the DME relay, if it's the one in the DME tray/compartment and the fuel pump fuse, and both are good. What else could be causing it to not get fuel (my assumed problem at this time)? Any help with this is greatly appreciated! |

Yep, checked them all today. None of them bad.
Called the stealership and they said there's no way to diagnose the DME out of the vehicle to determine if it's still good. Methinks the TV repair place may have damaged the DME while replacing the MOSFETs. Relented and had it towed to the dealer today--can't wait to see this bill... |

Result...
DME is bad. The work didn't look stellar when I got it back from the TV shop but what can you expect for $50.
No expectation of the DME to be warrantied since its been opened/tampered with either. Can't believe I'm saying this but I should've taken it to the stealership to begin with. |

Well, picked her up yesterday and the total damage was $2700. New DME, low pressure fuel sensor and a coil on #1. I don't think that's reasonable but I did think it would be about $3K.
Contemplating putting the Cobb tune back on as the new DME warranty is only two years and I seriously doubt it had anything to do with the initial misfire and DME failure to begin with. Thoughts? |

Though I'm electronically savvy enough to test it if I had clear direction, I did not, so I couldn't. Stealership claimed they didn't have the capability to test it, just say if it was bad or not.
And $3K is a bundle for me so, no, is wasn't worth it but yes, I did need the car back on the road. As for whether I got the MSD81, I forgot to ask. Looking at the paperwork now to see if it says or not...I hope so from what I've read. |
