Test for 335i 6MT owners....

Just curious as to what the more aggressive gearing in the auto does to the rpms when cruising.

If you have a 6MT with 19" wheels and 235 front / 265 rear tires, next time you are cruising on the freeway or whatever, set your cruise control so you are cruising at 2000 rpms in 6th gear check and see what your speed is.

In my car (auto with the 19" wheels/tires) it shows ~63 mph.

Don't know why I'm interested, but just curious to see the difference between the trannys.

Thanks

Your RPMS are lower than the manual in sixth gear, all you have to do is take a good look at the gearing. The auto is only "more aggressive" through 4th gear fifth and six both have lower gearing.

The advantages of high gearing in the low gears and low gearing in the high gears, really not fair.

Oh I know, I'm just curious as to the rpm difference when cruising in 6th between the two transmissions.

Actually I'd be curious to know what rpm the manual is at in 2nd gear at 40 mph too?

I looked at this on my 6speed mt on my way to the airport and I'm at 60mph @ 2000rpm. I have an xi and have my snow tires on, 225 45 17's all the way around.

I think you can find that out thought the tirerack website. They do have a tire calculator.
