E90 325 problems and warranty
Venting a little here....love the car but I don't think I will keep it after the warranty. 25,000 miles now. First year was great with no problems. Then airbag lite required new module, done under warranty....
Then I dropped it off today for DTC warnings(brake lite, dtc lite, tire pressure lite....) It also has developed a metalic clunk when leaving a stop. And the drivers side mirror is all discolored. Dropped car off and got a loaner 328....good so far. Then SA calls. First says DTC computer module has failed and needs replaced. They have fixed that. They are ordering a new rear differential and ordering the mirror. Parts will be in Tuesday (today is Wed) but they want the loaner back and for me to drive my cal till then. Then he says I need rear tires as the DTC/rear diff wasn't controlling slip.....no warranty and 2 rears will be $975......they are worn on the insides to 2.2mm. I laughed and said I would handle the tire replacement. I did the fronts last month, paid $130 for a like new used set and $60 to mount and balance them. I can find another deal on the rears. Another thing....the brake fluid flush said 1/2008 and they would not do it last week with the warranty issues......I had to wait till this week to schedule it all. Seems like it will be a money pit out of warranty........just venting. |

Pretty unfortunate. . . It's great that BMW service is free. . . but they definitely try to get you where they can.

You can replace all four tires for less than $975, and I would suggest going without RFTS and not giving the business to your dealer. In my experience the dealership is the last place from which to buy tires, and you've obviously noticed that too. The OEM RFTs (probably EL42s are notorious POS) and your dealer's assertion that the DTC/diff was the reason for the premature wear is pure BS . Don't you think you'd notice if the tires were spinning?

I can completely relate to you man. I have a 2001 X5 3.0i and I had similar problems that were corrected under warranty (5x the windows wouldn't go up). I still drive that car and I'm pretty sure I put more than 10k in repairs.

i have gone through issues with my car and do feel that without the warranty from the dealer we would be burning our pockets. however, we do drive the ultimate driving machine so with that title, there must come a price.

True but with people who don't have trees sprouting money, it's quite hard to pay 2k+ per visit to the Dealer.
I'm really concerned about buying my next car (within 1 month) since I've had terrible experiences with the X5. Really would like the 335i but I'm not sure if I'm willing to risk being shafted again. |

Though a great performer, I would thing twice about the 335. The fuel pump issues are just plain wrong -- and Bimmer never did a recall. I hear more and more turbos dying...that is alarming too in a $45k car. I would hate it to happen to the car that is out of warranty... I am not sure if 0.3 sec 0-60 time is worth all that... |
