How many of you wished our turbos spooled louder?

Had a chat with a member the other day and we both agreed it'd be nicer if the stock turbos were louder when it spooled up. I know adding a BOV and DPs help with the sound but still not by much...

Any of you wished ur car sounded like a built Supra?

having an aftermarket wastegate would be badass but i dont think our cars need it nor is it necessary. (i know nothing about turbo'ed engines, or any FI engine for that matter )

This is a luxury sports sedan/coupe, not an EVO.

I don't think the average 35-45 year old 335i buyer wants to listen to whistling and hissing like a fast and furious car.
BMW would lose 90% of 335i buyers if the turbos made their presence known everytime they accelerated a bit on the stock car.

I for one like they way the sound stock, they do get a tiny bit louder with the Procede. I like being a sleeper!

I love hearing the sounds of NA and FI engines. Whether its a good exhaust note, the wooshing of a BOV, turbo spool, an open wastegate, a high revving NA engine, etc, its all music to my ears. I kind of hate how numb the 335 sounds compared to my previous cars, but that comes with refinement I guess. So, to answer your question, yes, I would like to hear some more turbo spool on this car. On my S2K with an open wastegate it just sounded violent when the turbo would spool up. I miss that rawness sometimes.

I don't look at it as luxury or classy...

I see it as a car...and i'm no where in that 35-45 age category but i know what u mean though...

So you are either 55+ or <25

by 35-45 I'd say that's the "average" 335i owners age.

BMW wanted you think the N54 is a big, lazy NA V8. That means no turbo lag, or noise. If you want to hear the turbos (and they are actually very loud), pull the intake lid off the car or get a CAI.

I hate the fact that the Fast and the Furious movie has portrayed such wonderful power adder noises as ricey stuff. I love how my S14's Turbo sounds when its spooling the turbo, even tho my bov does get anoying once in a while, but i still like to hear the whistle. How boring can it be to drive a power adder car and not make any unique noises.

I agree with part of that (I dislike BOV's), but Spool is talking about a stock 335i here.

Hey Terry, so how is that hot air intake working, LOL. You know sometimes even tho its hot air, its actually better. That is if the engine needs more air.

That video makes it sound like it has a blower whine to it. That is some serious spool going on.

Yeah hot air is better than not enough air for sure, plus I have the rear cowl off on my car so it might get more ventilation under the hood than most. I've been busy at the office but hope to get back to the dyno this week.

Yeah, that's probably something like 20-25 psi boost.

You put turbos on this car that can boost 20+ psi and it will sound like that too.

With our cars stock ~8.5 psi boost, it's pretty quiet.

BTW, just add a piggyback.
Getting 13+ psi boost makes the turbos in this car quite a bit louder too.
You can actually, and easily, hear them then.

even at 20 psi our turbos are quiet... I know... We will need larger turbos if we want to hear that good ol' whine...
