Auxiliary Radiator based on the PPK

Got a pretty good deal on a new in the box Dinan OC, and plan to run it with the BMS thermostat bypass during the season. Was thinking of adding the auxiliary radiator (not oil cooler) on the driver side from the PPK package (also found the 335is cars, http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...1273&highlight). Think this further alleviate the coolant overheating problem that was reported by some members tracking their AT cars.

But I was just wondering if anyone has replace the smallish stock aux. radiator with a bigger aftermarket one. Think this is a much simpler and more elegant cooling upgrade for us AT guys, than running a transmission cooler (potential pressure drop issue as reported before) or a using one of those upgraded radiator made for the MT cars.

Btw, my car is an AT, running 15-16 psi on track w/ E30, and stock OC, but so far I have been able to avoid the dreaded limp mode with max cool feature enabled and heater running on full blast. Spraying water at the radiator and oil cooler between sessions seems to help quite a bit on a hot day. So far so good, but oil temp do reach do get pretty damn high on a open track (+280F)...

No taker? Judging from the RealOEM picture, the only problem is sourcing a connector that fit the factory hose. Worse come to worse, I can just saw off stock connector at the radiator and weld it to AN fitting.

The Setrab 6 series 25 row cooler can be used instead. Considering it is similar in size comparing to the core used in the ER dual oil cooler setup, it should have no problem fitting in front of the driver side front fender liner. I can just cut a opening on the driver side fender line, and reuse the stock vented cover on the passenger side front fender liner. Hell, there is no need for $230 OE shrouding that come with the kit, since the new core will be too large for it anyway.

Thank you! Very helpful. Goes in the side member so you can fasten the bracket that holds the radiator in place.

Was looking at this one myself but the pull PPK kit (without the tune)

It would be difficult to fit anything larger in there without some major cutting of the bumper and support frame…if you don’t have any issues right now (without the extra radiator) a bigger core isn’t really needed.

So I bought these parts used but I did not realize that the entire radiator core support needs to be removed to install the bracket for the cooler, is there a workaround for this? The instructions are not specific.
