Who doesn't drive their BMW in the snow?

For those of you who live where it snows. Do you drive your car in the winter or not?

Year round! Snow is the best time to street race or do Fast and the Furious drifting!

Actually, the truth is I am neither fast nor furious. But I throw on the Dunlop M3's and I'm fine for just about any wx conditions.

I dont drive it in the snow because I have summer tires on it. I'd definitely take it out to play though if I had all season or snow tires.

I drive it year round, which is why I bought an xi and have snow tires. My 30 year old Benz gets tucked away for 5 months though.

Same deal here, never have gotten around to getting the summer tires off of it. I drive a 4x4 in the winter, it's liberating to know that some idiot can run into you and you won't mind nearly as much.

I'm a die-hard MT, RWD driver so no Xi for me. I leave my car (currently an E46 330i w/ZSP, soon to be a E90 335i w/ZSP) in the garage for a day or two after new snow and use the wife's Honda Pilot if necessary. Sun is so intense here in CO that snow on most main roads is gone within a couple of days. I have all-season tires on the car and that is sufficient for getting through remaining snow, ice and slush and cold pavement. Even then, I just take it easy. Never needed snow tires in the 8 winters I've lived here. Dealers here will tell you really must have AWD for Winters in CO and they stock accordingly (you have to special order RWD & MT) but truth be told there aren't that many days you can't get around safely without AWD, unless you head up into the mountains a lot for skiing, etc.

My Xi is my main mode of transportation during the winter months. We have a massive pacific storm coming in that should dump huge this weekend. We are currently forcasted to get 5-8 feet of snow between Friday and Sunday. Man I love sunny California!

After driving my xi on icy roads I'm too scared to drive my other vehicle (a 4x4 pickup) in the winter. One important safety device on BMW is the balanced handling. It's even more important when the road is slippery.

I definately drive mine in the snow--all seasons are good enough for me.

Curious though--what are snow tires like when there isn't any snow? I assume you guys put them on when it starts getting cold or whatever--but surely there isn't snow on the ground all the time. Are they unforgiving? Just wondering....

The tires I use are dedicated snows - Blizzak Revo 1. They are not performance snows so they are a compromise in the dry. They tramline like crazy and are very very soft. However, they are worth it for the peace of mind when conditions get harsh. They are very smooth and comfortable but are not great at high speeds or performance driving. I have always had two sets of wheels/tires where I live. I just get used to the slower non-performance driving when it snows. Although it is relative as these tires outperform just about everything without studs on the road when the road is covered with ice and snow!
