For all those who have done the "PE Mod"...
I'm planning on hacking open the exhaust on my e92 and have a few questions before I dive in. I'm planning on just "straight piping" the straight sections, not all 4 perforated pipes.
Some images I found showed a cat. shaped section on the driver side muffler, what is the purpose of this piece? Does it exist on both E90/E91 or is it just found on E92/E93s? Should it also be straight piped? Also, does both the top and the bottom of each muffler need to cut to gain access? (What if someone was to cut a section of pipe similar to a "roll pin", cut the hidden side of the mufflers open, wrapped it around the existing pipe, and welded it in place?)

Are you sure you read it properly?
I don't think it said to remove all 4 perforated pipes. I am sure it said to just replace the straight pipes with solid pipes as you are planning to do. The cat shaped section in the muffler is a resonator, you need to remove it if it is present. |

^^+1. Yes all 64 pages. Just like every one else did that was interested in the mod.
Cut the top side of the exhaust box's open. Locate the 2 straight pipes. 1 with resonator and 1 with perforated pipe. Replace both of these pipes with solid pipes. Add tips and away you go. |
