335i in snow

I finally had a chance to drive my 335i in moderate-->heavy snowfall last night with snow tires (blizzak ws-50 215/50-17).

Quick and easy review: no problems at all (accelerating, turning, stoping..etc) Traction control kicked on a few times, but I always felt very confident that i had full control.

moral of the story: if you live on flat land (i.e Michigan), then the 335i w/ good snow tires will be just fine. Just watch out for other peeps that forget to put their snow tires on.

Were the streets freshly plowed or were you driving on somewhat virgin snow?

I put the blizzaks REVO1 on. Car does not handle well as far as a, well, well-handling sports car, but I've never had problems, even living in Syracuse, NY.

Plus 140 pounds of sand in the trunk...

No plowing/salt dropped. Probably 2-4" of fresh compacted snow. To give you an idea, i could not see the lane markers and could only see about 10-20ft; i call it a "white out"

Big mistake to put that much sand in the trunk. You are changing the weight distribution and that could impact braking and other things.

minor hills in my opinion. I was traveling about 35-45 on the freeway. meanwhile others were traveling around 30ish.

Thanks for the update drexplode. I'm waiting for my blizzaks to come in so that I can throw them on for the season. Even though I've had to wait a bit longer because they're back ordered from Tire Rack, I'm glad I chose them... they're not that easy to come by this season.

I don't think 140lbs is going to make much of a difference in terms of weight distribution. Don't worry so much.

no prob I know that i was hesitant to deviate from AWD considering MI winter conditions. Hopefully someone else in my predicament reads this and decides on maximum RWD funnage.

The WS-50s are a little "squirrelly" on dry pavement; but i don’t really mind. Makes me look forward to warm weather with the 189s
