Will this fix my 330 with dash creak?
This tsb is written for the 5 series, but the problem it solves - a creak in the center of the dash - sounds spot on as if it were my car.
http://www.bmwtis.com/tsb/bulletins/...p/B511304g.htm Has anyone ever heard or had this checked on their e9x? My dealer has tried everything short of this tsb and removing the dash. Thanks! |

Any luck finding the culprit? I have dash creaking in my E92. Also, my seats have been making alot of noise of late.

Not challenging your comment, just trying to be sure I don't get de-railed by a notion rather than a know fact. Thanks. |

I also have a slight creak around the Logic 7 speaker in the middle of the dash.

Hi Placey, I discussed the procedure you mentioned with my dealer and the tech there said he didn't think that was my issue. It's more from inside the dash and sounds like it's coming from the center.
I wonder, do you think it could have anything to do with where the struts mount to the firewall? The symptoms sound the same? See this: http://www.bmwtis.com/tsb/bulletins/...p/B511304g.htm Thanks for your help! |

Well, go get a ratchet and see if they are loose. It shouldn't take you more than 20 minutes. The Procede install instruction are good for showing how to get the filters off and get down to the strut bar.

I havent seen that issue w/ the E90. I have seen it numerous times w/ the E60's but not on the E90.
Sound travels, it could be somewhere completely different than where you're actually hearing it. |

Yeah, I know what you mean. Is there a known way to isolate a sound, such as driving while listening to various areas with a stethoscope, or maybe holding a tube such as a paper towel roll to the ear? Or maybe some sort of microphone with a db meter? Crazy I know, but so too is spending hours a week on the computer trying to figure this creak out! But I will prevail (and then make a million selling the solution to all who suffer).

2 people in the car, one listening and one driving normally does the trick. push against some areas of the dash, if the noise changes, then your isolating the area its coming from. its sometimes VERY tough to locate creaks/squeeks/rattles

Should I insist they check the struts first, and if that doesn't work, allow them to remove the dash? And is removing the dash going to be major and is it likely to introduce new noises? The shop manager says no worries - they've done it before. I understand that the dealership doesn't collect on warranty work where they don't replace parts, so he's not thrilled to take on this job, but seems to care about helping me out. Any advice on how to see this through is appreciated. |

i'm pretty sure the bar is not your prob i've done this sib plenty of times and the noise is a rattle/knock/pop sound from behind the nav screen over bumps or turns and yes taking out the dash could cause more probs then good

Since it has gotten cold down here my car has developed a terrible creak in the area near nav screen as well. It only happens when leaving work and the car has been outside the whole day. It doesn't do it in the morning after it's been in the warm garage all night.

I believe I've found my dash creak. Believe it or not it doesn't seem to actually be coming from the dash but, from the plastic cover behind the rear view mirror that is against the windshield.
When sitting in a normal driving position it seriously sounds like it is coming from the I-drive screen area. While driving through the empty parking lot at work leaning over trying to get an idea of where it's coming from just before my head hit the center stack I realized the sound was coming from above. I grabbed the plastic cover and it instantly stopped. It seems very loose. I'm not sure if it is supposed to be or what but, I can move it a good 1/2" left to right. |

I am joining the club. Tonight I am dropping the car off so the tech can drive it home, since everytime he drives it around the dealer it never reproduces. It totally drives me crazy and I can make the sound go away when I press on the black (I guess it's rubber) trim around the AC controls where it meets with the dashboard/wood trim. First I thought it was the cupholder (replaced it) because pressing on the open, extended cupholder silenced the noise, then I realized that that is just pushing against the dash and stopping the rubbing from the black trim on the wood trim.

i'll join the club too. my car rattles only when its cold. it comes from the top of the dash near the window. it sounds like its coming from the air vent that blows up on the window. No idea how to fix this easily.
