Charge pipe

What impact does an aftermarket charge pipe have and does it have any impact on emissions?

None for emission. It just a better design compare to stock where it will pop off if you put too much boost or just because of the bad design.

As mentioned above it is 100% legal , people change it because when you raise the boost the stock charge pipe fails.

Not true.
Cz when it breaks down, you will be left with a car that does not drive for several days.

Looking into this as well. I'm guessing if you add a JB4 you should also add charge pipe no? Also, what effect would a cold air intake have with these two components? Thinking of adding all three. Love the sound just don't want any performance issues.

Im going to have to disagree. On my 135i I was running just BMW Performance Power Kit and I blew my charge pipe. So yes technically BMW will replace it under warranty but thats a huge pain and waste of time.

With a non plastic charge pipe you can be much more confident you won't break your car when beating on it a bit. Especially if you plan to run a JB4 or other mods. Basically this WILL end up being the weak link in the chain that breaks.

As some of you guys know... I am running full bolt ons including larger turbo, jb4 stage 2 with e85 and boosting 23lbs, etc... That was way more than enough boost to keep blowing off the stock chargepipe. I'm currently running the rolloface chargepipe that runs from the throttle body to the intercooler and the other side that goes from the intercooler to the turbo.

I think just his CP popped off and it's all good now. But not sure

Stage1 no
If you plan on going to stage2 with any tune , you could if you want to push it hard. I wouldn't stress it just yet.

I have the ER charge pipe from intercooler to TB. Should I worry about the piping going from turbo to intercooler? Who sells that?

I have 4 months on RC, but I'm stock and I've used it for a month Jan-Feb (winter horror) temps without any issues. I am sure long-term would benefit to get a chargepipe and downpipe if i want to run at high setting all the time.

You should only ever have a charge pipe issue with any tune if you are pushing more than 21-22 PSI (which you won't if you are not fully modding) and are driving it hard on a straight track. There have been rare occasions where a stock or slightly modded CP blew off, but those instances are so slim. Basically if you are the average modder you don't need it.

I am pushing 20-22 with no mods but the racechip ultimate , shell/valero 93 octane.

So I'm debating on getting a catted dp but not sure on the chargepipe yet.

How does this racechip compare to say the JB4 stage 2?

I think you should be fine. All it does is add a sense of security. However, not always, e46m3lol can attest to that when his aftermarket one blew off haha.

I would strongly suggest that you get a charge pipe before the stock one fails.

Yes sir the rolloface chargepipe had popped off by the turbo side. Initially I was using some cheap clamps which kept breaking and ended up switching over to T style clamps which have been great so far.

Yeh it seems like those types of clamps are the way to go with this much boost running. But for reference I never got, and still haven't got a charge pipe for my e92 and the stock one is still holding. It really is just random. The vendors and people who have gotten it blown off will tell you get one, whereas people like me who have never had a problem tell you it's not really worth it. At the end of the day it's really up to you
