JB "Hot Pill" update

Hi Gang,

We've been testing the 93+ octane hot pill now for a few weeks, and so far everything is going well. Not a single limp reported when coupled with the normal JB2. Reported boost gains have been .5-1psi over the normal JB2, and horsepower gains have been 8-13rwhp. Low end torque is also improved 10-20rwtq.

We have not been able to do what I consider sufficient hot weather testing, so for now I am going to suggest the hot pill be removed during the summer months. I also have not done sufficient high altitude testing, so for now I am going to suggest the hot pill not be used above 1500' altitude. I have reason to believe that high temps and/or high altitude could result in a limp, so just be aware of it. On the plus side the pill is pretty easy to install/remove in the JB harness (no need to unplug DME connector). And if it doesn't work out for you we will take them back.

Using the hot pill with the JB2R has been a mixed bag. Most have not had an issue when used with 96+ octane, but at least one user has been getting a limp code with it. When used with the R boost spikes to 15psi and holds around 14psi, so it really requires your ignition system, etc, to be in tip top shape. Some users have been getting away with the R on 93/94 pump gas, but when the hot pill added you will get a limp. Don't try it. I suggest you run as close to 100 octane as possible with the JB2HR.

Testing with downpipes on 91 octane is still underway.

Terry I put the jb2 back in the car yesterday and also put on the H pill.I have to say I am very impressed. The pull is perfect! Plenty of power down low and up top.The car is a monster at any rpm.IMO its a perfect mod.thanks for letting me try it and for everything else. This install went as smooth as silk.It took me about 25-30 minutes. Now I dont feel the need to get the dinan flash.

Thanks for the Update Terry!

I just installed the R-switch yesterday, so ill be running JB2HR Havent had a chance to test it though, b/c the place with the race gas is closed on the weekends. So you suggest runnning as close to 100oct as possible?

Also, you said people on 93/94 are getting away running the JB2R without limp modes or any problems? Do you have any power differences/estimates of the R switch on with just 93/94 octane compared to 96+

Terry thanks for setting this straight; i am having good luck with JB2R, this tank is at 95.5 octane and with no problems in winter weather. Had it on 93 as well with no problems. I will keep everyone posted...very happy with it so far, and can't wait to try h-pill.

I don't suggest it at all but guys have done it. Not sure on the power difference, never dynod it that way. For the JB2HR the higher the octane the better!

Thanks for the Update Terry.
I'm just north of Atlanta at around 1,100 ft above sea level with outside temps a few weeks ago in the high 70's and I've had no issues with the Hot Pill.

I do plan on a mountain run in the next week or so in elevations as high as 4,000 ft. I guess I could throw in some high octane gas & leave the Hot-Pill in. Temps will probably be in the 35-45 degree range. What do you think?

Not a bad idea! While you are up there stop and restart the car if possible, there is a startup condition check I am worried about too.

Thanks,

Are you enroute back to Auburn soon? If so here are the directions to the Sunoco in East Alabama.

Note: Once you get to the circle track; you'll need to enter the fence on the right...your reference point will be a bunch of shop bays. If someone is there...a bay should be open. At times you may have to get out and knock on the door. Ensure that you tell the gentleman that you're looking for Sunoco 100 UNLEADED.

Beware...The Gas pumps are on site at the Circle track (dirt track). Your car is more than likely too low to clear the bank. Get yourself some 5 gallon containers and have the attendant go get the fuel for you. I have issues getting in and out of the area and my car is stock ride height.

You'll save 3 dollars per gallon getting your gas at East Alabama Speedway versus getting it from Speed South. VP 100 Streetblaze is $10.00 per gallon at Speed South

East Alabama Speedway: 334-297-2588
4256 US Highway 80 W, Phenix City, AL 36870, US

4: Merge onto I-85 N / US-29 N / AL-15 N via the ramp on the LEFT. 3.8 miles

Koy,

They're usually open all day Mon-Saturday. Give them a call before making the short trip. At times I'll stop in and the gentleman that runs the pumps will be out...usually he's back within fifteen minutes or so.

Bad News!!
Just had a call from the dyno...
H pill is a big no-no for summers temps, right now here the temp was at 89degrees.(I'm located in Puerto Rico)
And the owner of the car called me and told me that A/F climbed to 12.5 and then decreased to 10-ish and even 9-ish.

The car before had 318hp with JB2 and with H-pill installed it gave 299HP.
I believe that what decreased those A/F ratios where the stock Ecu.

The 318hp where at night like a month ago, i believe that temps where like mid 70's.

So with 85 and up degrees it will not work.

We will give it a shot later on the week at nighttime with 93 octane to see if the problem is the temperature. Which I highly believe it is.
And we'll bring 4 gallons of 100 octane, to make later runs of the HR.

I'll get to you later on the week, with night temp results.

Happy New Year to everyone!

Interesting, I wouldn't expect the hot pill to have much of an effect on the air/fuel ratio. 10:1 would be a lot richer than its supposed to be. The symptom of it not working would be a limp mode. Is it possible its installed in the wrong spot? Did the monitor they boost level?

No they did not monitor boost..
They just went to check on A/F ratios on the day, to see the effect on 85-90+ temps.
Do you think it could be installed wrong?

But again we tested it at night

It would likely give a code, but just make sure you put it in the JB yellow loom. I'll be away from the PC but you can email or call if needed, give it a shot on good gas, as close to 97 octane (ron+mon)/2, and lets see what happens.

I've been driving my car in South Florida for weeks on the H pill and 93 octane and the temps have consistently been in the 80's and I've never seen a code.

....driving really hard, too.

is it pushing it to run the hot pill w/ 92 oct gas... seems to be the standard at the pumps around the seattle area.
