Problem putting power down

Question..

I installed a jb4 in my car a few days ago and it is very, very fast. I am having a blast driving this car! One problem... getting the power down. Currently I am running a 12MM spacer in the rear. My question is would I be able to fit a 305/30/19 on the rear tires. I am also planning on lowering the car on H&R Springs which are sitting in my garage. Would a 295/35/19 or a 295/30/19 suffice? I would like to keep rubbing as minimal as possible, I would just like some input to what the best setup is for optimal grip. Any advice is appreciated!

I run a 305/35r19 with a 10mm and it has a very slight rub

On stock wheels or do you have aftermarket wheels? if stock, no problems mounting those tires on stock wheels? Tire rack lists 10.5-11.5" wheel widths as the proper fitment on 305s. I was thinking of going with 295 also, but would use 305s if they would fit.

In the realm of things, this will not fix your problem... Im on 11" rears with 295's and no tune or anything and I have trouble putting the power down as well. I think we all do.

The tire compound is just as important as the width of the tire. Try some Toyo R888 295/30 in the rear and it should hook up a lot better. They fit fine on stock wheels no rubbing.

Nothing will hold grip in 1st gear with this car, but at least the Toyo's stopped it from breaking loose in 2nd.

Are you using a 295/30 or 295/35? Wider tires won't help off the line traction...you need a tire with a larger diameter. A 295/30 is actually smaller diameter than stock and probably won't help in putting the power down. A 295/35 should give you better off the line traction, but there might be a slight trade off with handling.

i think a 295/35 would rub because I'm on hr springs and have a 12mm spacer. Im thinking 285/35 in the rear

And folks blasted me for wanting a tune with a more progressive power delivery because it doesn't "make the most power possible" Well if you cant put down the power who cares! That is another reason I am pushing for a "NA-tune" file with a more progressive onset of power so we are all not left spinning in the lower gears

With no spacers and no drop I would think 295/35 would fit on stock wheels and not rub and would also eliminate some of the wheel gap.

I ended up going with a 295/30/19 on the stock 19' wheel. They're sticking pretty well in warmer weather.. NY is a shit show with snow until at least the middle of March

I was hoping someone would weigh in on the 295/35. I've got no clue but can't imagine .5 inch taller would matter

By increasing the rear track width with the spacers, 24 mm in this case, you get less static weight on the rear axle as a starting point. The simplified equation for this is Weight (rear axle) = Weight (Total)*(Weight Distribution) + CG(height)/TrackWidth (rear). So, the more you increase the track in the rear, the less weight on tires there will be to generate traction.

Do a simple test, repeat few of times if you can to make sure you get reliable data: do few acceleration tests as best as you can without spinning the wheels or minimal spin, record your times (60' or higher), then do the same acceleration without the rear spacers (leave the fronts on). See if that makes any difference in your times Frankly I do not know how much difference there will be, but I would imagine it would be worth the results in one way or another

Great question! I haven't tuned my car yet, but I just lowered my car with the KW HAS kit (highly recommended) and added a 12mm spacer on all 4 corners as well. I have the stock 19" black rim, and will be keeping them for a while. I would like to eventually add larger rear tires as well, but I do not any rubbing issues whatsoever. I was thinking if I could get away with adding 305's in the rear, but that might be pushing it. Have you changed tires yet? If so, what did you end up going with? Are you having any issues with rubbing? Thanks
